When Mr. Earnshaw brings a black-haired foundling child into his home on the Yorkshire moors, he little imagines the dramatic events which will follow. Rather Depressing.

What did you love best about Wuthering Heights?

The performance and the unexpected.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting part was that it was in no way a "normal" romance novel but more about love gone wrong.

Have you listened to any of Janet McTeer and David Timson ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love Gone Awry

Any additional comments?

Interesting that it is a "classic" IMHO

Classic

Put this book on your list. No reading list is complete without it.

Emily Bronte here offers the classic Gothic novel. Dark secrets, vindictive villains, retribution, mystery... it's all included. The tale is a dark one. It has a semi-happy ending, but for the most part the story keeps to a dark, somber mood.

I enjoyed the recording. Janet McTeer and David Timson are two of my favorite narrators, and they put on first rate performances for this novel. Sound quality is excellent.

If you are looking for a happier book along the same lines then try Jane Eyre by Emily's sister, Charlotte Bronte. I prefer Jane Eyre to Wuthering Heights, but would suggest listening to both.

Really, Really Bad Parenting!

I've always had a hard time getting through "Wuthering Heights" and still have difficulty loving any book (however "classic") which offers so few redeemable characters and so much frustration. I'm just saying - gloomy is not necessarily my thing.

But, there is a reason this has been read over and over and is greatly beloved. Emily Bronte's characters are so vibrant and so real that they engage your passion and interest, even if not your approval. No matter how many times you long to cry out "Get Over Yourself!", the story and those characters keep pulling you back in! It would be so interesting to see what Emily Bronte might have come up with had she lived to be a more mature author.

Any listener knows the narrator or narrators are key. Janet McTeer could not be better. In future, I will recommend that anyone new or returning to "Wuthering Heights" have the pleasure of experiencing her narration. She is a wonder!

good book

Good book and a great listen. However an alternate title to this might be. "A Bunch Of A--holes". Each character is more mean and miserable than the last. But it is a great story

Wonderful narration for an interesting story

Ok, so maybe it's not lighthearted and bright, but this is a fabulous story. Told wonderfully by Bronte and narrated incredibly! I definitly recommend this to anyone interested in a good story in the Victorian era. And I'll admit I chuckled a good number of times so there is some lightheartedness, just not a whole bunch.

A morosely intriguing story.

I have been hesitant to read or listen to Wuthering Heights because I prefer happier books. I decided to try this because it is on the Great American Read Book list as one of the top 100. I can not comprehend how the imagination of Emily Bronte could have conceived such a story. It is a depressing story, yet I could not stop listening to it until it was ended. I can see why it is rated in the top 100 books.

Such a relatable tale.

The characters are so perfectly chronicled. The way Emily generates a simultaneous love and hatred of certain characters is brilliant. Unquestionably worth reading.

Timeless and riveting !

What did you love best about Wuthering Heights?

This classic, which I had not thought about since 8th grade, is mesmerizing because of the almost gothic characters who inhabit the house of the title.

What does Janet McTeer and David Timson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

During the entire length of the audiobook, I kept marveling at the brilliant narration of Janet McTeer. David Timson is fine, but he has relatively little to do compared to Janet McTeer, who embodies all the characters with absolute mastery of dialects and personalities. I don't think I will ever get over her narration of this book, which held me spellbound for so many glorious hours.

Any additional comments?

This is perhaps the finest read of all the many Audible books I have devoured over the past four years. Highly recommended !!

A good audiobook for an unforgetable story

I discovered Wuthering Heights through the 92 move. So I read the book and fell in love utterly for the story. In a first moment, the audiobook did not meet my expectations. I thought Janet McTeer and David Timor would perform a audiodrama but instead they acted only Ms Dean and Mr Lockwoods dialogues and reported speech. Although, as soon as I realized that it was according to the narration structure of the book, I enjoyed a lot!
