Pride and Prejudice is one of my absolute favorite books, and this performance by Kate Reading is the best audiobook of P&P I've ever heard. Ms. Reading is clear, entertaining, and grasps the sly wit of Jane Austen admirably. Austen's work was designed in part to be read aloud, and though I've read the book countless times, listening was a whole new experience; I found myself laughing at passages I had merely skimmed over in the past. I highly recommend this book (and all Austen's work), both in paper and audio format.

Very good

This is a good novel on its own. But with Kate Reading as the reader, it is also a good audiobook. Definitely worth the time and money.

Humor enhanced by the reader

As another reviewer wrote, there are hundreds of reviews of Pride and Prejudice about. It is a classic of English literature. But it is also an extremely humorous book! From the exasperation of the daughters towards their father to the awkward unexpected meetings, there is humor throughout the book. And the reader has just the right touch to bring that humor out. The timing and the tone is perfect and adds greatly to the words.

What a great story!

This was a great story. I've never read a Jane Austen book before, and I wouldn't have listened to this one, but my brother got hooked on the PBS mini-series. So he read it and really enjoyed it. I was going on a long trip so I got it to listen to. It was a little hard to get into, but after a while I was hooked. I couldn't wait to hear the end. The narrator was perfect for this story.

I love the classics and the narrator does a wonderful job of putting you into that "classic" mode. Truly an unforgettable classic, and great on audio! You WON'T regret listening to this one.

I love this book and this reader has done it justice. I highly recommend it.

First and best download

This was the among the first books I downloaded from Audible. It is by far, my favorite and I never tire of listening to it.

Listening to Jane

I have just finished listening to a great reading of Pride and Prejudice, having chosen to listen right after re-watching the BBC drama version of the novel. I commend the script-writer in the drama for following so very closely the text of the novel, which, after all, happens to be mostly dialog.
I sense that we often "listen to Jane Austen" herself in this novel -- and wish I could have met and talked with her in person. This is next best.
Amazing and intricate listening in on thoughts, motives, prejudices, relationships. Like most famous Victorian novels, it critiques the attitudes of the "upper" class, but it also shows real character growth as the central actors in the unfolding story realize how they have seen things wrongly or incompletely.
This novel is almost a "comic strip" in places -- more so than any other of Austen's books -- yet perhaps learning to laugh at ourselves and our prejudices is healthy -- especially when we can laugh with a witty person like Jane.
