Kate Reading Rocks!

What made the experience of listening to Pride and Prejudice the most enjoyable?

Kate Reading, the narrator!

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This story is a classic from which many more books and movies have been adapted so I wouldn't change a thing. Although I'm not a fan of Jane Austen per se, I knew that Kate Reading would bring life to all of the characters -- and she did.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kate Reading has this amazing ability to *be* each character. She has such range in her voice as to be able to render the most manly bass to the shrill laughter of a little girl, and every character in between. She is truly amazing.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. This is literature and it is so refreshing to feast on a vocabulary exceeding the third grade that I took my time savoring it.

Any additional comments?

If you have the opportunity to listen to anything narrated by Kate Reading, you should do so. I strongly recommend Jim Butcher's

classic

this was read very well, she does a wonderful job with the voices making ever-so-subtle changes for each character. (not so subtle for the mother :) This is just an awesome book, and it's brought to life very nicely in this reading!

I simply loved it!

Where does Pride and Prejudice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was the first audiobook I've listened to. I loved it. I couldn't stop reading and listening. Immersion reading is wonderful, especially for those who have English as a second language...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elizabeth. She's strong and confident, and yet very sensitive

Great Book and Great Narrator

Would you listen to Pride and Prejudice again? Why?

I, like others, have read this many times. This is the first time I 'read' it in the audio format. I enjoyed it this time as much as any other and the narrator did a great job! Just like the previous times I read the book, I was sorry to have the story end.

Kate Reading is a superior reader

I agree especially with the reviewer who mentions KR understanding her role as narrator. She reads in a way that allows the text to resonate. Thank you, Kate!

So hard to not give five stars!

It seems almost unthinkable to me to give a reading of my most favorite novel anything but five stars, and yet I couldn't get past Kate Reading's reading. It wasn't that she was particularly bad, it was more that she wasn't particularly good, and for this most beloved novel I want only the best. I thought Reading's reading was too flat, and I felt that she didn't truly "get" the book enough to do it justice. It was almost like she was focusing more on speaking perfectly instead of losing herself in the book and really conveying all it had to offer. That being said, I still loved "reading" it again for the umpteenth time, and no matter how much I love TV and movie versions of this great classic, I reread it once a year or so for the great pleasure of experiencing this story in its entirety. This was the first time I'd experienced it as an audiobook, and I look forward to hearing another narrator's version in the future.
