Publisher's summary

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables send for a boy orphan to help them out at their farm, they mistakenly get Anne Shirley, a feisty, independent but warm-hearted 11-year-old girl. Fortunately her sunny nature and quirky imagination win the hearts of her reluctant foster parents and everyone in the community. But not a day goes by without some memorable adventure or prank in the tragicomedy of her life. Early on she accidentally dyes her "cursed" red hair green. Later, in an effort to impress a neighbor, she bakes a cake, but with liniment instead of vanilla.

Lucy wrote that Anne is an extension of herself and represents the independent, "new" woman of the emerging 20th century. Individualistic, resourceful, and of a great humanitarian heart, she remains a great role model for girls and women today.

I LOVE THIS READER!

Years ago, I had read Anne of Green Gables and wanted to have a copy on my ipod, but I was worried about getting a dud reader. This reader is excellent! I laugh out loud quite often at the reader's interpretations of Anne and Marilla! The story is wonderful!

I rarely finished whole book, but this one, I did. The story is lovely, and the narrator is good too.

Pure and Charming

I know these are more typical of a younger reader, but the series was on a list of 100 books to read before I die. I was totally enchanted with Anne. She reminds me of my younger self. She’s quite the talker but she’s so delightful that it is more likely to make you laugh then be annoyed.

I use books like this as a palate cleanser between heavier works, and it was just right! We listened to it at the tail end of a long road trip and it kept us awake enough to make it home.

Shelly Frasier as the narrator is perfect, and while I adjusted to different narrators later in the series, none of them quite match her for Anne and for Davy.

I absolutely love this book and the reader just made it better!

I've listened to so many different Anne of green gable stories and all the readers were different, but this one surely was the best. When Mathew died, I almost cried my heart out. Thank you for providing a great audible book! (The sleep timer really was nice)

We also watched the movie and enjoyed it and the book was just as much fun.

Delightful!

What did you love best about Anne of Green Gables?

The story was funny and endearing. One could not help but like Anne even though she was a chatter box. The lessons she learned as she grew up I could easily relate to, having raised three children. I loved the characters of her adopted family, too - one harsh but loving, the other quiet and wise. I would recommend this for school age child or adult.

What did you like best about this story?

It was funny.

What does Shelly Frasier bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Personality in each character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she gave up going to college.

Wonderful Retelling!

Where does Anne of Green Gables rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This classic is one for all ages. It takes the reader back to a simpler time and tells a story of self-discovery and the union of an orphan with an older, quiet couple and the enrichment they bring to each other in a beautifully touching way. Not to be missed!

Magical

I loved this book. It was so nice to be transported back to a simpler time of wholesome goodness. I am a guy and usually read sci fi or European Classics, but this was a nice change of pace. I found myself wishing I had grown up on Prince Edward Island at the turn of the twentieth century.

The narrator was perfect(especially her voice for Anne), and I found myself being lulled into another reality very easily. She is much better than the other narrators in the other versions.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is soulfull, be they 12 years old or 100.

Great!

I liked the reader very much. I'm a 9 year old boy and I thought the story of Anne was really cool. I wish she was a real person. The other characters in the book are great too.
