Lucy wrote that Anne is an extension of herself and represents the independent, "new" woman of the emerging 20th century. Individualistic, resourceful, and of a great humanitarian heart, she remains a great role model for girls and women today.

I am grateful that I have never met such a manipulative, pretentious, and persistently noxious child.
Sometimes you need a palette cleanser of a book, before going on to another that enchants you. This is a good palette cleanser.
The story is as old as time. A poor character, with a great attitude conquers life's struggles and finds in the end that simple life and family are most important.
I have seen the movies of the Anne of green gables since childhood, so I excited to finally read the first book in the series. I was not disappointed. Of course the details of Prince Edward Island and of Green Gables made me want to book a flight right away. Anne was precocious as ever and in the book you saw more of her development into a young lady and the maturity that comes with age. I can't wait to read the other books in the series. and just like my mother shared the movie with me, I will share the book with my children.
yes because it is very entertaining and allows one to exercise their very own scope of imagination
I particularly enjoyed the underlying theme of the importance of making good choices.
She brought life to each of the characters through illuminating their individual characteristics
The story was funny and endearing. One could not help but like Anne even though she was a chatter box. The lessons she learned as she grew up I could easily relate to, having raised three children. I loved the characters of her adopted family, too - one harsh but loving, the other quiet and wise. I would recommend this for school age child or adult.
It was funny.
Personality in each character.
When she gave up going to college.
Yes, it was delightful, enjoyed every minute, wanted the story to go on and on.
The reader performance was perfect.
The look back in time but yet the wisdom and human longings still apply today. Good laugh at the statement about politicians, nothing has changed in over 100 years.
Difficult to pick out a favorite but the opening scenes set the tone, I knew I would enjoy the book
Throughout the book Anne's love for her new family was lovely.
Still a favorite
It was a story I have read many times over the years from childhood to "great grandmotherhood". Being the only girl with four big brothers, I was always being put to a challenge and would seldom back down regardless of the outcome. Thus, it is easy to relate to Anne. Shelly Frasier is a marvelous reader and adapting her voice to each character.
I think it was Anne although the couple who took her in were true heroines.
Keep these old classics alive and in print so all generations may enjoy them for years to come.
This classic is one for all ages. It takes the reader back to a simpler time and tells a story of self-discovery and the union of an orphan with an older, quiet couple and the enrichment they bring to each other in a beautifully touching way. Not to be missed!
In pursuit of truth, justice, and an end to spoilers!
I liked this book as a child but loved it even more as an adult! Timeless and endearing, it was pure sunshine to hear. Listening to this soothed nerves I hadn't realized were frazzled.
It's not often you can go back to a book you liked from long ago and find it's even better than you remember. Montgomery transports you completely to another age and time, and you bring back nothing but smiles! Recommended for red heads, romantics, curmudgeons, and readers of all shapes and sizes.
The narrator is perfect. I wouldn't want to hear the rest of Anne's tales from another reader, so I'll seek out all of Shelley Frasier's versions I can find!
