Publisher's summary

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables send for a boy orphan to help them out at their farm, they mistakenly get Anne Shirley, a feisty, independent but warm-hearted 11-year-old girl. Fortunately her sunny nature and quirky imagination win the hearts of her reluctant foster parents and everyone in the community. But not a day goes by without some memorable adventure or prank in the tragicomedy of her life. Early on she accidentally dyes her "cursed" red hair green. Later, in an effort to impress a neighbor, she bakes a cake, but with liniment instead of vanilla.

Lucy wrote that Anne is an extension of herself and represents the independent, "new" woman of the emerging 20th century. Individualistic, resourceful, and of a great humanitarian heart, she remains a great role model for girls and women today.

Charming

I absolutely adored this reading of anne of green gables. it was like sharing one of my favourite childhood books with a friend. I thought the narrator was excellent- (the male characters voices pretty good which I have found difficult with other readers)- good characterisations, and the tone met the mood of the book beautifully.
Audible- when are you going to get Shelley Frazier's reading of Anne of Avonlea?!?!? PLEASE!

Magical and Beautiful

I've never gotten around to reading some of the classics and this series should be a MUST on your list. Anne captured my attention the very first time she spoke. She has wonderful, amazing adventures. For all she has been through, she is incredibly resiliant, wise as only child can be and finds beauty in everything around her. I have been captivated by her world, her strength, beauty, creativity, determiniation and work ethic. Its seems that she ignites and tranforms every person, object, written work and chore into something entirely differently than merely a bothersome or commonplace thing. Even her routines bring her and her reader, comfort. Never before have I read a series where I know for sure that will get all the way through it.
Unfortunately, I can't find, "Anne of Windy Poplars," the fourth book in the series, so I will have to buy that book and read it. It wouldn't be the same to miss an entire part of her life and just move on to the next book.

I'm in my late 30's and haven't experienced this kind of joy from a book in a very long time. What an incredible talent Lucy Maud Montgomey had for shaping life into to something uncommonly beautiful.

A MUST HAVE!!!

LOVED THIS AUDIOBOOK!!! I did love the Anne of Green Gable series as a child and have listened to all of the audiobooks available and can say without a doubt, the Shelly Frasier narration is the absolute best! Her voice brings into the story like none of the others does. Susan O'Malley's is good too, but again, this Shelly Frasier narration is the best of them all!

Shamelessly sappy.

It took me until my dotage to allow myself to read this story. The courageous red haired girl orphan wins the heart of an elderly woman and her brother. The pictures of life on Prince Edward Island in horse and buggy days, the acceptance of the girl into the small town and her new family, and the usual struggles of life provide a warm journey away from today's cares.

It's So Good to Be Alive!

For over twenty years, I have loved Anne Shirley and Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert and Avonlea and Green Gables very much! And this audiobook version read by Shelly Frasier is marvelous. Ms. Frasier adds a great deal of life to what is already a beautiful and effervescent story, making Marilla sound so dry and stern and good, Matthew so gravelly and shy and sweet, Anne so bubbly romantic and fantastically imaginative and expressively kind, and the other characters so right. To be honest, perhaps because I've read the book and watched the faithful Megan Follows TV adaptation, I now and then grew a little impatient with Anne's self-absorbed stream of consciousness prattling riffs, but for the most part listening to this audiobook made me laugh and charmed and moved me.

Pure sunshine!

I liked this book as a child but loved it even more as an adult! Timeless and endearing, it was pure sunshine to hear. Listening to this soothed nerves I hadn't realized were frazzled.

It's not often you can go back to a book you liked from long ago and find it's even better than you remember. Montgomery transports you completely to another age and time, and you bring back nothing but smiles! Recommended for red heads, romantics, curmudgeons, and readers of all shapes and sizes.

The narrator is perfect. I wouldn't want to hear the rest of Anne's tales from another reader, so I'll seek out all of Shelley Frasier's versions I can find!

Made more beloved to me...

Any additional comments?
Shelly Frasier takes one of my favorite books with some of my favorite characters and makes it even more beloved to me. I sampled all the readers (and purchased four different books!) and I am glad I chose this one. I would buy it for 10x the price. I listen to it almost nightly to enjoy the cozy matriarchal sound of Shelly Fraiser's voice. She is a true performer and is able to sound like an innocent child, a blossoming girl, a strict but loving woman, and a shy and gentle hearted man. All characters are given voice, spirit, and justice. It really is so sweet and warm and wholesome. They just don't make them like this anymore. Do yourself a favor and listen to it in the fall or late summer. I have recommended this to everyone including men and they all say it was touching and beautiful. If you're someone who wants to feel like your grandmother is telling you a story by the fireplace on a chilly winter day you will LOVE this!

10/10 and definitely in my top 3 audiobooks.

A classic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely reccomend this book. It starts off really slow with all the background descriptions, etc. but once it starts in the story it totally captivates. I listen with my. 8 year old daughter and 7 year old son and we loved it!

What does Shelly Frasier bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She gives the characters a voice and brings them alive.

Yes, it was delightful, enjoyed every minute, wanted the story to go on and on.
The reader performance was perfect.

The look back in time but yet the wisdom and human longings still apply today. Good laugh at the statement about politicians, nothing has changed in over 100 years.

Which scene was your favorite?

Difficult to pick out a favorite but the opening scenes set the tone, I knew I would enjoy the book

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Throughout the book Anne's love for her new family was lovely.
