Publisher's summary

Lorilee Riley has eight cats, a Florida home, and a large lot to maintain. That ought to be enough to keep a senior citizen busy, but when she finds a corpse in her flowerbed, Lorilee wants to know who put it there.

Later, the question becomes why the police don't seem to be a hundred percent dedicated to finding out who killed Regina Dean.

Once she figures out the problem with the official investigation, Lorilee drags her newfound friend Jess into helping her carry out her own quest for justice. Jess would rather stay home and play with Lorilee's cats, but as everyone knows, friendship creates obligations.

Two amateur sleuths--one reluctant, one slightly gimpy--sail into danger, with only a gang of cats for backup.

So much more than a mystery

Herd of turtles -not something I hear often, but something I say almost every day, and for that alone I would have loved this story. Add in Lorilee, the senior cat lover, and Jess, the teen who becomes her not always excited sidekick, a house full of hilarious cats, and some annoying neighbors, and you have a lot of laughter. The crime, and mystery that follows, are well written and exciting, and it's not obvious who the perp is so I spent the whole book collecting clues and not figuring it out. The relationships between Lorilee and the other characters are both humorous and heartwarming, and there were a few situations that had me tearing up. I also really enjoyed the narration and the pace of the telling. I especially loved the German anger management coach, Gunther. He always made me laugh. This is my first book by this author, but it won't be my last, and I hope to see more of Lorilee, Jess, and the cats.

Great read

It was wonderful to read about a disabled senior and a seventeen year old with colored hair and piercings being able to have an equal relationship. The author was able to make them both relatable and smart in their own ways. Add a neighbor who watches from a ladder and a troop of cats who could have only found a home with this owner and you are in for a great read
