Publisher's summary

Meet Emily and Paul: The parents of two young children, Emily is the newly promoted VP of marketing at a large corporation while Paul works from home or from clients' offices as an independent IT consultant. Their lives, like all of ours, are filled with a bewildering blizzard of emails, phone calls, yet more emails, meetings, projects, proposals, and plans. Just staying ahead of the storm has become a seemingly insurmountable task.

In this book, we travel inside Emily's and Paul's brains as they attempt to sort the vast quantities of information they're presented with, figure out how to prioritize it, organize it, and act on it. Fortunately for Emily and Paul, they're in good hands: David Rock knows how the brain works - and more specifically, how it works in a work setting. Rock shows how it's possible for Emily and Paul, and thus the listener, not only to survive in today's overwhelming work environment but succeed in it - and still feel energized and accomplished at the end of the day.

Your Brain at Work explores issues such as:

  • Why our brains feel so taxed, and how to maximize our mental resources
  • Why it's so hard to focus, and how to better manage distractions
  • How to maximize your chance of finding insights that can solve seemingly insurmountable problems
  • How to keep your cool in any situation, so that you can make the best decisions possible
  • How to collaborate more effectively with others
  • Why providing feedback is so difficult, and how to make it easier
  • How to be more effective at changing other people's behavior

COMPLICATED TOPIC! ATRISTIC, AWESOME PRESENTATION

This is one of the best audio presentation. The topic is a very complicated one. But the author presented that through 2 characters which made the book very understandable and simple.

Thank you

Helpful information presented in a memorable way

I listened to this book off and on and ended up listening to a lot of the book more than once. I found it enlightening to have a scientific reason for behavior most of us have experienced. Even though the format of the book and/or the narration is a little hokey, I gain so much from listening that it didn't bother me and maybe even helped me remember it better.
My reason for finally reviewing this book that I listened to over a year ago, is that I so frequently find myself telling others about this book, what I learned from it and how it helped me manage my employees and even improve our training methods.
Worth listening to in my opinion.

Great listen.

What made the experience of listening to Your Brain at Work the most enjoyable?

What about Bob Walter’s performance did you like?

As in most my reviews, I like when I can set the speed to three times as fast an still understand the reader.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The title is perfect:

It was OK and sensible

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Perhaps I've read or listened to a few too many of this sort. It was fine but nothing new or rather different. I often listen to audio a few times or check my own notes on books that inspire thought, or new perspective and idea, I began listening to this one again. I didn't, or couldn't. the 3 stars is for effort.

Would you be willing to try another book from David Rock? Why or why not?

No for the reasons above

What three words best describe Bob Walter’s voice?

OK

Was Your Brain at Work worth the listening time?

Not really

Hard "read", worth the time, at double speed

I will recommend this audiobook with the caveat that because the situations are done twice, the wrong way then the right way, I had to increase the speed too 2.0 to keep my interest.

Where is the end of it?

Am I the only one, who got some chapters repeated in part II and the end missing? In my download part II ends by asking me to look for the next part of the audiobook???

If this book was boring, I wouldn't care... But I really want to hear it to the end...
