Audie Award Nominee, Business and Educational, 2013

Getting an MBA is an expensive choice - one almost impossible to justify regardless of the state of the economy. Even the elite schools like Harvard and Wharton offer outdated, assembly-line programs that teach you more about PowerPoint presentations and unnecessary financial models than what it takes to run a real business. You can get better results (and save hundreds of thousands of dollars) by skipping business school altogether....

Josh Kaufman founded PersonalMBA.com as an alternative to the business school boondoggle. His blog has introduced hundreds of thousands of readers to the best business books and most powerful business concepts of all time. Now, he shares the essentials of entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, negotiation, operations, productivity, systems design, and much more, in one comprehensive volume.

The Personal MBA distills the most valuable business lessons into simple, memorable mental models that can be applied to real-world challenges.

True leaders aren't made by business schools - they make themselves, seeking out the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to succeed. Read this book and you will learn the principles it takes most business professionals a lifetime of trial and error to master.

Great for MBA Students

What made the experience of listening to The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business the most enjoyable?

I appreciated that Mr. Kauffman broke business down into many different segments. It keeps the listeners attention.

What other book might you compare The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business to and why?

Winning by Jack Welch is another favorite. The Personal MBA has more of an academic approach than Winning. Winning provide a lot more stories and is a slower read. The Personal MBA will benefit a lot more people (it's not just for CEO's).

Which character – as performed by Josh Kaufman – was your favorite?

Josh

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen to it whenever I have free time.

Thank you. Very informative.

Loved this book. Every bit of it was exactly what was needed. The narrator was perfect (obviously). Must listen to at least once a month.

Required Reading for Everyone

The only book I've ever recommended and gifted before even finish reading. When I heard that Josh was the narrator I immediately purchased the audio version and used it a thorough refresh to my last read. Industry testimonials have said enough. For those of us successful practitioners of self education and self driven personal improvement, this book and all of Josh's works speak to our souls. Thanks Josh, and hope you can continue creating and sharing invaluable brain content.

Great introductory book

Great book. Very well written. Josh covers a lot of different topics in this book, which makes it a great introductory resource for learning how to become more productive. He references a lot of other good books which I otherwise would not have known existed. The only negative (and it is a minor one) is that a lot of the topics are mentioned superficially, however thanks to his references, it is easy to find more resources for a deeper dive. Would recommend this book to everyone.

Changed My Mind

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if they are interested in pursuing a business venture, or learning how to a business actually operates this is an in-depth introduction.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Focus on the mind, how to work alone, how to work with people, and improving systems.

Any additional comments?

Personal MBA and its adjoining websites are excellent resources for the aspiring entrepreneur or seasoned professional. You are bound to learn something new, or reinforce what you may already know.

Excellent insight about MBA

I think this book is just the start. It is like the table of contents of what you should be reading and educating yourself. I have learned a lot from this book and it is like an eye opener.

Great if you're just entering the corporate world

This book is filled with good information but to me it was a rehash of most of the things I already knew. I would recommend this if you've just graduated and entering the corporate world.

Excellent Information,No Story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business to be better than the print version?

No - this book reads like a textbook. It is difficult to listen to because there are lists of principles and concepts. The information seems well-researched and the author delivered on my expectations for content. There is just very little story line.

Would you ever listen to anything by Josh Kaufman again?

Unlikely. I would certainly like to own some of his books in a physical form, but listening to them is very much like hearing someone read a Psychology 101 textbook - interesting, but hard to stay engaged with.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, the information was too dense to digest in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

Solid information that I want to have, just more useful if delivered in a media other than audio.

Both business and practical. A favorite.

I have the book and the audio book, and have read and listened them. I really like the book because it's very practical and usable. It's a distillation of important business lessons. Also see "Street Smarts", a similar book that complements this book.
