Publisher's summary

Charlie Munger, Berkshire Hathaway's visionary vice chairman and Warren Buffett's indispensable financial partner, has outperformed market indexes again and again, and he believes any investor can do the same. His notion of "elementary, worldly wisdom" - a set of interdisciplinary mental models involving economics, business, psychology, ethics, and management - allows him to keep his emotions out of his investments and avoid the common pitfalls of bad judgment.

Munger's system has steered his investments for 40 years and has guided generations of successful investors. This book presents the essential steps of Munger's investing strategy, condensed here for the first time from interviews, speeches, writings, and shareholder letters, and paired with commentary from fund managers, value investors, and business-case historians. Derived from Ben Graham's value-investing system, Munger's approach is straightforward enough that ordinary investors can apply it to their portfolios. This book is not simply about investing. It is about cultivating mental models for your whole life, but especially for your investments.

Too many quotations (or “how to write a book without writing”)

“Charlie Munger, <place>, <year>”

Congratulations, you’ve now experienced 15% of this book. Quotation after quotation, distinguished only by the monotonous attribution above, are used in place of actual written content by the author.

Best business book i have listened to!

What made the experience of listening to Charlie Munger the most enjoyable?

This is more than a business book as Charlie shares how he thinks and approaches tough business decisions which are also applicable to everyday life.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Charlie Munger?

Many memorable quotes like the "one legged man at a ass kicking contest" also his use of implementing many approaches (mental models) to his investment making decisions.

Have you listened to any of Fred Stella’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Fred Stella is a polished presenter and narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just a book with gold nuggets of wisdom and funny at times too.

Any additional comments?

We all hear of the genius of Warren Buffett but Charlie Munger is his absolute equal!

Actually quite informative

not much of a story and the action gets broken up by citation, but overall it's a fantastic glimpse into the buffet-munger strategy.

Lots of quotes

I think the book was pretty well organized, but it was basically a bunch of quotes strung together. I definitely got some insight into my own thinking.

Good information, annoying quotes

Everything about this book was good from the narrator to the content. My only complaint is that the quotes every sentence made this book terrible to listen too. It is a biography I don't understand why everything that Charles Munger said had to be quoted. My girlfriend refused to listen to this book while she was in the truck for that reason.

Intertwined with Graham, Fisher and of course Buffet!

A lot of the ideas expressed here intertwine with Buffet’s, of course, they’ve been partners for decades. Munge’s quoets are more candid, audacious and entertaining though.

Fundamentally the book quotes Charlie Munger for his views on value investing and some of the shifts in thought he learned and persuaded Buffet to incorporate in their assessment and long term investment of companies.

The narrator is ok, enounciates properly and the material flows but there is little charismatic or sarcastic tone when reading Charlies’ quotes. I think that is a miss.
