I wish I bought the paper book instead of the audio book. The second half of the book is really a reference to the 34 themes and just didn't work in audio format. While I think the content of the book was useful and I appreciate that they included a code to take leadership version of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 program, it would have been better to have the paper. In addition, the authors should not have read this book. They made the content very boring and uninteresting.
Having been a follower of the Strengths based principles since I was introduced to them with the first book - Break All the Rules - I was delighted that they had put together information focused on Leadership. As the Strength based 34 themes I was glad to see they had done the research to focus in on how leaders use their strengths to build great teams. There are many statistics in the process of gathering the information and usually I would give them a curious review and look for the information that would help me BUT I just could not get through the book. I have seen Tom Rath before and now that he is reading the book I have to really wonder why a statistician would be allowed to read a book. There is no passion for the information - no change in tones - I could only listen for 10-15 minutes at a time before I began nodding off. I know this is important information and getting the code for the book is important to take the test - so buy the book - NOT the audio.
I could not stay focused with the way Tom Rath reads his material. It is very flat (monotone). and mechanical. I was very interested in hearing about this material and was so disappointed when it could not hold my interest. When Barry Conchie started to read his part it was much better but still not what I would call a good voice to read a book. The other thing that was disappointing was that the book is supposed to have a code to go on line and take an evaluation before going on to the second half of the book but with the audiobook I did not know how to get a code. Is there one with the audiobook?
Take the test first to identify your characteristics then you can focus on the ones that describe you instead of listening to all of them and wonder which apply.
I plan on listening to it as many times as it takes to own it's life changing, actionable, data driven methodology. I like when data demonstrates how well a product or idea delivers. I'm a busy person, time is the most precious. I would buy any book they publish. I love a great return on my investment. DD Vasseur.

The performance was fine. The majority of the book is really for reference related to the Strengths Finders assessment so there isn't much to the story. I wouldn't waste an audible credit on this book. I'd buy it in print though.
Yes, while it's principles are still valid, the story is a little out of date. It would also be interesting to examine the companies that survived or failed during the most recent depression to see how their leadership structure compares to the book.
Trying to listen to lists after lists in audiobook form is like asking to have your eyes gauged out with spoons. So the first half was interesting, but this is pointless as an audiobook in my opinion.

Yes. I'm in a strengths based organization and work in the human resources division. I have to know it and use it beyond my team when I am consulting with other teams.
I'm thinking of this book as a reference book. The great content in the book are the sections on each strength where the authors descibe how to lead from that strength and how to lead other's who have that strength. The one glaring thing that is missing is how to work with a leader who has that strength. I would add a section from the followers perspective on each strength.
The think that I liked most about the performance was the conversational style. I really felt as though Barry could have been sitting next to me in my car, doing yard work, or eating breakfast while I listed.
Not really. the 'moment' is really the bulk of the book where they describe how to work in each strength.
This is simply, really excellent content. I'm thinking they should write a book for strengths based following... though they should probably have a better name than that.

Just to let you know - it's performed in American English, but speaker is has a very nice voice and comprehensive accent.

Could be more dynamic, more engaging, more real life examples. The book has been built on the back of extensive research so more living examples would have been fascinating.
