Publisher's Summary

It’s time to take your business to the next level.

Eileen Sharp and Vic Hightower were frustrated. After years of profitable, predictable growth, Swan Services was in a rut. Meetings were called and discussions held, but few decisions were made and even less got done. People were pointing fingers and assigning blame, but nothing happened to solve Swan’s mounting problems. It felt as though they were working harder than ever but with less impact. The company Eileen and Vic had founded and built for 10 years was a different place. It just wasn’t fun anymore.

Their story is not unusual. The challenges they were facing are common, predictable, and solvable. Get A Grip tells the story of how Swan Services resolves its issues by implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System. With the help of EOS, Eileen, Vic, and their leadership team master a set of managerial tools that allow them to get traction on their business, grow the business, and deliver better results for clients.

The story of Swan Services is a fable, but the Entrepreneurial Operating System is very real and has helped thousands of businesses worldwide. A complete entrepreneurial toolkit, EOS has helped thousands of businesses get to where they want to be.

In Get a Grip, learn how Swan Services leaders learned to develop and commit to a clear vision, establish focus, build discipline, and create a healthier and more cohesive team.

With characters and situations created from collective business experiences and stories, Get a Grip is a fable that will ring true for entrepreneurial leaders the world over and guide them to get their companies on track.

    "Really A Good Book"

This book really helps me to see the possibilities for my own small business. I am just getting started but this book helps me to see how to start correctly and set the core values and vision of my company now before we grow large. I truly enjoyed the practical application of the concepts of traction illustrated in this book.

"A true and practical entrepreneurial guide"

very well written and well narrated, great book for any business owner. highly recommended in you're starting, growing, or building a startup, or any business. I would read Traction after this, to do the actual implementation.

"The greatest entrepreneurs guide I've ever come across"

The Entrepreneur Operating System described is brilliant in its simplicity and full of practical tools for running a business.
The EOS is exceptionally well described through a realistic and very relatable example that make this book easy to listen to.

"A more digestible version of the companion"
What did you love best about Get a Grip?

Life like portrayal of a business scenario. Naturally, the protagonist is the EOS implementer (consultant).

What other book might you compare Get a Grip to and why?

This is the 'business fable' version of Traction. I think it makes all the same points in a more compelling manner.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No - I enjoyed absorbing it over about two weeks.

"Story is very hard to follow"
What would have made Get a Grip better?

The way the book is written with multiple characters is hard to follow. It's even more challenging to extract business advice in order to apply it. Traction was a helpful book. This one could have been if the format was easier to follow.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Confusion

    "Confusing."

Generally my idea about listening to audiobooks is so I can do it while driving. There were so many names in this book and so much detail used to describe the actual environment and characters that made it difficult to follow the main point.

    "great practical implementation demonstration"

great practical demonstration on how to implement the eos system though sometimes a little too artificial. taking the story aspect of it out, there are great examples of exercises and tool utilization, as well as core principals of the system

    "Fable Well Done"
    Any additional comments?

I actually like the Fable better than Traction. I think it does a great job of a somewhat realistic scenario and results.

Reads very similar to the five Dysfunctions book and i would put it in the same category as that.

I think it is much easier to get through Traction after reading this book

"Excellent book for business owners and managers"

I liked that this book walks through what the meeting structure should look like as you implement traction. Good story. Kept me wanting to read more and complete the book.

    "a lot of business history"

the book talks about 50 years of history of Koch businesses. I appreciated all the stories of what they did well and what they did. not so well. the part about creative destruction was very interesting. However, regarding the management system, I recommend the book traction and get a grip by Gino Wickman before reading this book.
