Publisher's summary

No one is more surprised than Asher, one of the oldest vampires on Earth, that he's attracted to vamp hunter Jo Radcliffe. She's smart, a talented slayer, and she's gorgeous. Something about her pulls at him, like no one ever has before. For a man whose name strikes fear in everyone - this is something new and intriguing. And quite possibly deadly, if she discovers his secret.

Jo has two things in common with the handsome Asher - they are both slayers and someone is messing with them in a very-much-trying-to-kill-them way. She's not so happy about joining forces with a dude she doesn't know. But he's sexy as hell and really good at his job as one of the Forgotten Brotherhood, whose business it is to execute misbehaving paranormals.

She knows she's bait in a larger plot to harm Asher and the Brotherhood. And there is nothing he won't do, no line he won't cross, to keep her safe - which may be the weakness that destroys them both.

Learning to love one of the hunted

I loved Asher and Jo’s opposites attract, enemies to lovers romantic suspense tale. This was a wonderful mix of sweet, steamy, danger, and real life issues. The balance between the romance, danger, and self-reflection was done really well. Asher is an immortal vampire. He is also a member of the Forgotten Brotherhood, a band of uber powerful paranormal assassins who kill the worst of other paranormal entities. Jo is a human vampire hunter whose parents were killed by vampires. They meet when an anonymous email sends them both to the location of a gathering orchestrated by a rogue vampire. Once they meet, the attraction and connection is undeniable but things are complicated since Jo has spent her life hating and hunting creatures like Asher. They elect to stay together to find out who is setting them and the Brotherhood up and of course the more time they spend together the more their feelings intensify. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown in sweet moments, steamy scenes, fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. While this can be read as a standalone, there is an overarching plot line that is more enjoyable if the books in this series are read in order.

Joe Hempel did a good job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters well.

Omg! Omg! Yum!

I just finished the first 3 books of this series and this was also the first 3 books by this Author that I’ve listened to and I was blown away at how much I enjoyed each one, no whiny heroines, protective heroes willing to fight by the side of their ladies, great action scenes and some steam for the romantic in us all, I will continue to listen to all the rest of the books by this Author 🤓

Even Better than I expected!

I really enjoyed this story! I couldn’t wait to dive in and I love the female the author picked for Him. They learn to work together well and weather a few surprises.

Asher has been a favorite since I first met him. He isnt afraid of Maccus and actually jokes with him a bit. In here we see amore serious side of Asher. He has a rather large job of dispatching rouge vampires and runs across a human vampire hunter. He kind of attaches himself to her…and the rest is history. Ha ha!

Jo is a delight to get to know! She is spunky, tenacious and not afraid of the unknown. She is impressive with her fighting skills! I love all the weapons she carries on her person and how she even went after Asher once she realized what he was. She cracked me up near the end with her ramblings about Maccus!

Speaking of Maccus….EVERY scene with with him and Morrigan is awesome! I am either laughing or smiling at how she handles him. So so good!

Overall this is probably my second favorite of the series. The story is wonderfully written and we are sent deeper into these characters and other we have met. I did listen to this on audio. Joe Hempel is the narrator and does a great job!

I look forward to the next in this series.
PS—I love all these covers!!
