Publisher's summary

Build for Tomorrow will change the way you think so you can overcome any obstacle and reach your full potential.”—Jim Kwik, New York Times bestselling author of Limitless

The moments of greatest change can also be the moments of greatest opportunity. Adapt more quickly and use the power of change to your advantage with this guide from the editor in chief of Entrepreneur magazine and host of the Build for Tomorrow podcast.

We experience change in four phases. The first is panic. Then we adapt. Then we find a new normal. And then, finally, we reach the phase we could not have imagined in the beginning, the moment when we realize that we wouldn’t go back.

Build for Tomorrow is designed to accelerate that process—to help you lessen your panic, adapt faster, define the new normal, and thrive going forward. And it arrives as we all, in some way, have felt a shift in our lives. The pandemic forced a moment of collective change, and we are still being forced to make new plans and adjustments to our lives, families, and careers. Many of us will never go back, continuing to work from home, demanding higher wages, or starting new businesses.

To help people along this journey, Entrepreneur magazine editor in chief Jason Feifer offers stories, lessons, and concrete exercises from the most potent sources of change in our world. He speaks to the world’s most successful changemakers—from global celebrities like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Maria Sharapova to innovative CEOs and Main Street heroes—to learn how they decide what to protect, what to discard, and how to move forward without fear. He also draws lessons from history, looking at how massive changes across time can help us better understand the opportunities of today. For example, he finds guidance for our post-pandemic realities inside the power shifts that occurred after the Bubonic Plague, and he reveals how the history of innovations like the elevator and even the teddy bear can teach anyone to be more forward-thinking.

We cannot anticipate tomorrow’s needs, but it shouldn’t take a crisis to push us forward. This book will show you how to make change on your own terms.

A Truly Outstanding Business Book!

I’ve been learning from Jason Feifer and the people/companies who he often writes about for the last few years.

I was very happy to find the book on Audible, and even happier to find out that Jason was also the narrator.

I especially enjoyed Jason’s personal stories, and how honest he was about some of his struggles and successes in both his personal and business life over the years.

I also like how he doesn’t always just accept “prevailing wisdom.” Instead, he often researches what was in the news and being discussed at different times in history, usually with regard to new technologies and cultural

In Chapter 5, he describes a great exercise for helping to share what you do.

In Chapter 9, his purchase of a product leads him to meet a very interesting gentleman. This is just one example in which we get a look into a company’s business strategies that can be applied to many other businesses.

In Chapter 11 he shares a great interviewing technique, with a specific example of how he uses it.

And his “Ninja mind trick,” (my name for it!) for helping succeed during stressful and new situations was refreshing and something that I plan to employ in the future.

All in all, I found Build for Tomorrow to be packed with useful and inspiring content.

Excellent!

Excellent framework in here for managing through, and even thriving in, change.

My favorite nuggets of wisdom:

1. Why and how to overcome nostalgia
2. How to extract ourselves from our limitations
3. “What is this hour for?” “There may never be time for everything. But I came to realize there’s always time for plenty.
4. How to identify if I have a problem or an opportunity by asking 3x “But really?”
5. “Sameness is forgettable.” (If you ask me, I’m all for new experiences for the win, all day every day!)

Thank YOU Jason!!!

Jason tells great stories in his own voice

The one constant in life is that change is inevitable. Jason shares fascinating stories from history such as the bubonic plaque along with personal stories with powerful tools like the Johari window and pre-mortems to prepare you to handle adversity and change.

Worth rereading

I originally heard Jason on a podcast and liked him so much I bought this book. Really enjoyed his performance and the messages felt tight and applicable. There wasn’t a lot of pointless fluff. I’d reread this book again. It was that valuable to me.

Work your next job

Jason was absolutely outstanding the way that he brought the concept to light through real world experiences and his personal examples caught my attention. I am ashamed to say I bought the book over a year ago and have yet to read it! Instead, I went onto my current technology with my busy life, and downloaded it on audible and boy am I glad I did! Jason reading this story in his own voice really brought the passion I needed to understand the concepts within this book! I am now passing on the paper copy to continue the learning and spread the joy for what Jason has brought me.

The Change Will Do Me Good!

I had never heard of Jason, the author, yet he was a guest on Donald Miller, of The Storybrand, podcast. As Jason was describing his four steps, I knew I had to get the book.
“It is not a puzzle where all pieces fit together”. This is something that made it very unique, allowing the reader to treat it like a toolbox and extract what might be best in the moment to build for the future.
I highly recommend this book, especially as an audiobook, read by the author.
