Publisher's summary

Make no mistake, Zadie Night, I am the bad guy here.

The first time I laid eyes on Amir Vasquez, he held me hostage in my dorm.

You made me a promise.

I swore to myself my second year at Savage U would be different from the last. No more hiding from things that go bump in the night. I’m dating now. Making friends. Living my life. But then someone starts leaving me notes and whispering my name in the dark, scaring me right back into my shell.

Are you my pet?

I’m shy and soft. Amir is dominant and hard. He stole a kiss once, and then he left me. I should stay far away from him. But you know what they say about the devil you know…

Do I own you?

Amir will protect me, but not without cost. I’m his, to do with as he pleases. He thinks it’s a punishment. But what he doesn’t know is I haven’t stopped thinking about him since he was my captor.

No one’s going to hurt you.

I’m safe from harm if I’m with him, because he’s the biggest bad on campus.

Show me your whole universe.

And somewhere along the way, he became my haven, too.

You should be scared of me.

I can’t believe I’ve fallen for the villain.

Bright Like Midnight is a dark college romance that explores mature themes and dubious situations. If you're looking for a nice guy hero, this story isn't for you!

honestly loved it

There were some cringey moments but overall this was a very enjoyable read. There were funny and beautiful moments. Amir and zadie were so cute, I loved the semi slow burn. I give it a 4/5⭐️ 4/5🌶️

Bright Like Midnight by Julia Wolf - 3⭐️

Tropes/Themes:
-MF new adult contemporary romance
-Unconventional meet cute (in book #1 heroine was held captive by hero as collateral)
-Opposites attract (Bad Boy x Good Girl)
-Dual POV
-Book #2 in an interconnected standalone series

This was sooo good! Their communication could have used some work (especially on Zadie’s end), but I found this surprisingly sweet considering they way these two came into each other’s lives. The relationship itself ended up being so much softer than I would have accepted given their unconventional meet and cute and everything the hero was caught up in. I also really enjoyed how much we got of Zadie’s family, they we’re so precious.

I can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series, I’ve been dying for Lach and Elena’s romance.

Too sweet for what was expected

This book was sweeter than I expected, or than I wanted. I needed more danger and darkness, instead, Amir seemed like a softie who had a bad job and the persona of a bad guy. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just what the blurb led me to believe the book would be, and it wasn't what I was in the mood for.

I listened to the audiobook, and thought both new-to-me narrators did a good job, but I also wasn't blown away here either. I don't think I'd carry on with the series (or go back and read Helen's story) with the exception of maybe Julien, he was the only character who interested me.
