Publisher's summary

An edge-of-your-seat crime thriller starts with a vicious stabbing of a pretty teenage girl and her boyfriend on a local bus. She happens to be the mayor's niece. It's the final straw for the community.

The police are desperate to get results and decide on a risky course of action involving undercover infiltration of the notorious Effingell Estate. Detective George Elms knows this hellish place extremely well, and his sharp investigative mind is put to work to solve the crime. The police are under immense media pressure and conveniently a local lowlife confesses to the attack. But George is not convinced. There are many layers of criminal and police motivation, and few people are what they seem.

At a loss for the best words

Major twist. I am ready for the next book now
I love the humor, the characters development is slow but consistent

Excellent

It's a very good book. Though I must admit, and I do love the narrator, that I think his voice us a tad too old for this main character. But I'll accept it because I love his narration.

Great plot twist

Outstanding

A very enjoyable listen-
At first I thought “great scott how many characters am I supposed to know here?!?”, believing there were far too many to manage with any success or enjoyment. Yet as the story progressed, I became aware the expansive cast of characters not only made sense in the context of the story unfolding, but were actually necessary to lend credibility to the tightly woven plot.
The performance is truly spectacular. I highly recommend this series.

Great series

This gripped me at the beginning and I listened to all 4, loving every minute. The narration adds to the story, he does an excellent job on all his readings.

Potential for Redemption?

Gildart Jackson's narration led me to this title. At first, those familiar with Peter Grainger's series about D.C. Smith find themselves in familiar territory. Alas, Gallagher spends more time with his villains than with his main police protagonist, George Elms. The plotline has some potential, the 'good guy' characters much more; the villains are largely boring, rendered memorable only by Jackson's superbly orchestrated voice. For me, the book became more interesting somewhere around Chapter 30. This is the first Charlie Gallagher I have 'read.' Perhaps he never dives more deeply into character, preferring to develop plots with some surprising turns. The second book in the series may offer more, and as Bodily Harm ends in something of a cliffhanger, may be worth your investment.

I enjoyed this one!

So much so that I immediately got the second one in the series after I finished it.

AWFUL, UNBELIEVABLE STORY

Actions the main character takes at the end makes zero sense, they leave you on a cliffhanger in this book & the next (which is the only reason why I continued), but I refuse to move on to the 3rd one because the plot was equally as terrible & unbelievable…. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME…. No sane person would behave the way this SEASONED DETECTIVE did…. Just awful & one of the worst I have read in a long time
