Publisher's summary

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Congressional Gold Medal, Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel offers an unforgettable account of Hitler's horrific reign of terror in Night. This definitive edition features a new translation from the original French by Wiesel's wife and frequent translator, Marion Wiesel.

Night is an unmistakably autobiographical account of the author's own gruesome experiences in Nazi Germany's death camps. Told through the eyes of 14-year-old Eliezer, the tragic fate of the Jews from the little town of Sighet unfolds with a heart-wrenching inevitability. Even as they are stuffed into cattle cars bound for Auschwitz, the townspeople refuse to believe rumors of anti-Semitic atrocities. Not until they are marched toward the blazing crematory at the camp's "reception center" does the terrible truth sink in.

Recounting the evils at Auschwitz and Buchenwald, Wiesel's enduring classic of Holocaust literature raises questions of continuing significance for all future generations: How could man commit these horrors, and could such an evil ever be repeated?

Critic reviews

"Elie Wiesel’s memoir of life in the Nazi death camps has been reissued with a new translation by Wiesel’s wife, Marion. Read by George Guidall, this new edition is a brilliant and haunting reminder of these horrific crimes, as well as a testament to Wiesel’s faith and resilience. Guidall is the ideal reader, and gives yet another masterful performance. Every word Guidall utters reminds the listener of the fear, the suffering, and the hatred Wiesel witnessed and experienced as he drew upon his every instinct to fight for survival. The audio edition also contains a new preface by Wiesel, as well as Guidall’s performance of Wiesel’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. NIGHT is already a classic, and this audio edition is a superb complement to the text. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award." (AudioFile magazine)

"[A] slim volume of terrifying power." (The New York Times)

This book should be read by all!!

I read a lot of different WWII stories on how the nazis stoled the Jews lives. The loss of families, homes, and the terrible tortures and deaths of millions. This story of the young man who remembers seeing such a horrific tragedy of deaths of his mother, sister, and father and so many others. Amazing that he survived! Beautifully written. Thank you for sharing this again and rewriting it to bring it back for current generations to read. I honor you Elie Wiesel! May God bless you for keeping the faith and sharing your story to keep it alive.

Beautifully Read

Love this personal retelling of one’s experiences during the Holocaust. So important to remember, and stand up to oppression today! Such a strong reminder of how being impartial is siding with oppression.

Love the Author

I cannot imagine what transpired during these difficult times. I will probably also loose my beliefs too. It’s so sad to listen to and all the emotions that’s going through my head and my heart. The writers feelings, raw. Especially for his Dad. So sad and heartbreaking.

Enthralling

This book will take what you thought you knew about the holocaust, and then inform you of what you did not actually know about the holocaust. It brought me to tears.

Powerful, Moving, Timeless Truth, which should never be forgotten.

It is 2:51AM and I have just finished this audio book. Several hours ago I was tired, and now I wonder if I will sleep at all before my five o’clock alarm sounds. I will ponder this book for a few days, then I will listen to it in its entirety again. Thinking of my grandfather, who as a medic, was among the first of the men to enter Bruckenwald, pulling living souls from the fiery furnaces. Left burning by the fleeing nazi guards. By day he took photographs and at night he developed them in his helmet. Photos that still survive after all these years. God help us all, to stand, speak and fight against tyranny of every sort. God help us all to be men and women, worthy of the air we breathe.
