Tova Friedman was one of the youngest people to emerge from Auschwitz. After surviving the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto in Central Poland where she lived as a toddler, Tova was four when she and her parents were sent to a Nazi labour camp, and almost six when she and her mother were forced into a packed cattle truck and sent to Auschwitz II, also known as the Birkenau extermination camp, while her father was transported to Dachau.

During six months of incarceration in Birkenau, Tova witnessed atrocities that she could never forget, and experienced numerous escapes from death. She is one of a handful of Jews to have entered a gas chamber and lived to tell the tale.

As Nazi killing squads roamed Birkenau before abandoning the camp in January 1945, Tova and her mother hid among corpses. After being liberated by the Russians they made their way back to their hometown in Poland. Eventually Tova's father tracked them down and the family was reunited.

In The Daughter of Auschwitz, Tova immortalizes what she saw, to keep the story of the Holocaust alive, at a time when it's in danger of fading from memory. She has used those memories that have shaped her life to honour the victims. Written with award-winning former war reporter Malcolm Brabant, this is an extremely important book. I found this book because I follow the author on tiktok. As soon as it was available I had to get it. Her story her life shows us today that what happened then needs to never repeat. However it feels as though it is. So thank you Tova for opening peoples eyes.

Narration contributes to solid writing

I’ve read several non fiction and historical fiction books about the Holocaust. The specific details from her memory and her father’s documentations that survived contribute to the veracity of the book. Also well researched as to dates and other related events. Well written and really liked the narrator as well. Still continue to learn from these books. Recommend.

This book is well written and narrator dose a great job, I have over 300 audible books and this one is one of the best I've heard.

Hearing the atrocities of the Holocaust from a child’s perspective is a sobering experience, but the resilience and hope that Tova brought with her in her later life is inspiring.

Beautifully written

I've read many holocaust memoirs and this story was incredible. I loved that it told the story and journey after liberation and survival too. That persecution didn't stop after getting out in Poland. An interesting life in both the US and Israel. This is at the top of my list of memoirs. The narration was great.
