Completely Captivating

I just couldn't stop listening to this incredible story....I found it was a memoir that was sensitively written and will no doubt be painful for many to listen to. Beautifully narrated by Guidall, it's a compulsory read so we may never forget the atrocities that occurred to so many.

George Guidall performed this beautifully! I envisioned the entire story from point to point as he told it. Elie's book is eloquent and poetic. To say that Elie's story touched me, is simply not enough. I am thankful that Elie shared his story with humanity, and I am glad that I took the time to listen.

Terribly horrific story that needed to be told

This is a story about an awful time in man's history told from the perspective of a young man. It is a book that everyone should read. Poignant memories

Heartbreaking

This story was heartbreaking. I couldn't put it down. I downloaded it becuase my son was reading it for high school. I only wished the story continued.

Every child and adult should read this!

I got this book because my oldest son was reading it in his high school class. They later took a trip to the Museum of Tolerance. He was so impressed by the book that he asked me to read it too. This is my sons heritage: Their grandfather came to America right before Elie went to a concentration camp and was about the same age. Even though he didn't have to live through what the book described the experience had a profound effect on him, he has never recovered his faith and hated it when I tried to teach this to my boys. He now thinks your faith and/or heritage is something to hide because you never know when this could happen again. Even though my boys are only half Jewish and only by birth I'm glad there are writings like these to show them why it is important to remember the past.

I loved it. it's so sad the way he tells his story is so sad yet I love the way he tells it. although I wish he would have included what happened to him after. but either way I loved it

The World Owes a Debt-This is Why.

It is now time to revisit the "Jewish Holocaust" but this time, not from movies, not form interviews if observers or even survivors, but from several years of slavery and imprisonment at not just Auschwitz, but at several other of the 40,000 Nazi death camps as well, of a 16 year-old-boy recounting the experience from the inside out and tells a story of evil, cruelty and horror occurring daily before his child's eyes. This story was in print 50 years ago, but it was in a time when the truth of this tragic time was too fresh and too difficult for many if not most to fully face. Now with this magnificent "new" translation it can be and should be. It is with much satisfaction that it has become "must reading" at universities everywhere.

Amazing

Such an amazing read. This book really paints a picture of the horrible things done during the holocaust and shows one mans struggles through it.

I was moved to tears by this book.

George Guidall delivers a very powerful narration on a very powerful subject. I met a man whose story closely resembles that in this book, and I was profoundly touched by the man's indominable spirit. I asked him if there were any movies that came close to describing, to helping people understand, the atrocities he was forced to endure. He said that none exists. This maybe the closest one will ever get to seeing the holocaust through the eyes of a boy in such a poignant way. By the end, I felt ashamed to be part of a human race that could allow such horrific events to occur. It was everything I expected it to be. I highly recommend this book.
