Filled with a sense of adventure and national pride, they left their parents' homes wearing their best clothes and confidently waving good-bye. Filip Müller came to Auschwitz with one of the earliest transports from Slovakia in April 1942 and began working in the gassing installations and crematoria in May. He was still alive when the gassings ceased in November 1944. He saw millions come and disappear; by sheer luck he survived. Extremely Sad
I appreciate the author and narrative for their ability to bring these experiences to life. This truly shows the level to which some human beings can go in their cruelty to fellow man. It also shows the resilience and strong will to survivors people have. My heart goes out to all the survivors, families and friends left behind to bear the losses of their loved ones.

Difficult truth to confront
The account of the author lays bare the atrocity of the Holocaust. He is explicit in detail of how so many Jews were communally murdered. Then he explains how the murderers methodically covered over evidence.
