Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Humor, 2013

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut.

Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes listeners on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Chapters include: "Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel", "A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband", "My Vagina Is Fine. Thanks for Asking", and "And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane".

We’ve handpicked some of the best audiobooks that can soothe the symptoms of anxiety, break patterns of negative or unhealthy thought, and help ground or comfort you when things get tough.

Editor's Pick

Alas, poor Jenny…
"Just like the taxidermized, Yorick-like mouse on the cover, Let's Pretend This Never Happened is awkward, weird, and hilarious—as is the writer, Jenny Lawson, of The Bloggess fame. Her narration, too, makes this listen truly sing—quite literally when she belts out the chapter titles like a manic, singsong opera star. The whole package is so genuine and vulnerable that I frequently laughed to the point of tears as she regaled her experiences dealing with anxiety, depression, and social missteps. This is a title that could only be written by Lawson herself."

Laugh out loud funny!

What made the experience of listening to Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) the most enjoyable?

The narrator and writer are the same which lends itself to an easy listen. Quite hilarious but be sure to bring your sense of humor. Plenty of profanity that adds to the humor but it takes a bit to get used to it. Once I did, I found everything funny.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I enjoy books in pieces rather than all at once. This gives me time to breathe and start again fresh.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this to anyone who needs a good laugh. Enjoy the endorphin rush!

It's not hilarious, but just kinda funny.

Struggled to finish.
Not super funny, just semi- interesting stories.
Author is a bit overwhelming, not the type of girl I'd want to have as my best friend. IMO

Don't read this unless you like to laugh!

Love it! I reread this often. It's great! One of my all time favorite books by one of my favorite authors. Jenny is funny, insightful and kind with a knack for landing in absurd situations and sharing them with both resignation and wit.

Funny and endearing

Lawson's mostly true memoir shares the many eccentric stories of her life in a humorous and engaging way. The Bloggess narrates the book herself and adds her own sarcastic tone to the already satiric tales her of work, family, and life. Not many people have the privilege of a taxidermist father who is a prankster, or a giant chicken named Beyonce, but listening to Lawson we can all feel like we know someone who has. She exudes personality, and her stories were rich with moments of heartfelt emotion and hilarity.

I laughed till I cried!

Love everything about this book. The characters (true or not) were wonderfully portraid, I loved them all. Her story is so outrageously funny (and a little bit sad at times) that I couldn't put it down.

So charming and funny

The author is so funny and these stories are so outlandish they couldn’t be true but they are. She took me back to my childhood and teenage years of awkward hilarity. Her stories of motherhood and dog ownership are my favorite but also heartbreaking. What a talent!

Funny stories and excited reading

I didn't enjoy this one as much as Furiously Happy, Jenny's 2nd book, but this was an enjoyable listen when you need something light-hearted. It's a good reminder that the things in our lives that seem totally mundane to us are sometimes completely absurd when you say them out loud to other people.
