Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Humor, 2013

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut.

Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes listeners on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Chapters include: "Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel", "A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband", "My Vagina Is Fine. Thanks for Asking", and "And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane".

Featured Article: The Best Audiobooks for Soothing Anxiety

The care of family, friends, and a trusted therapist, practicing mindfulness, engaging in calming hobbies like yoga, journaling, walking in nature, or listening to music—these are just a few of the strategies that can ease the overwhelm. We’ve handpicked some of the best audiobooks that can soothe the symptoms of anxiety, break patterns of negative or unhealthy thought, and help ground or comfort you when things get tough.

Editor's Pick

Alas, poor Jenny…
"Just like the taxidermized, Yorick-like mouse on the cover, Let's Pretend This Never Happened is awkward, weird, and hilarious—as is the writer, Jenny Lawson, of The Bloggess fame. Her narration, too, makes this listen truly sing—quite literally when she belts out the chapter titles like a manic, singsong opera star. The whole package is so genuine and vulnerable that I frequently laughed to the point of tears as she regaled her experiences dealing with anxiety, depression, and social missteps. This is a title that could only be written by Lawson herself."

funny

Funny, sometimes sad and even insightful in places, the somewhat truthful memoir is worth a read (or a listen). Mrs. Lawson has her own neurotic take on life events, and a possibly unhealthy obsession with taxadermied animals in clothes.

As a bleeding heart liberal who wants played in a rusted out VW bus until I was stung by wasp, and jumped off the roof

I approve of this book just like I approved of Obama (not so much for Clinton he use that poor girl). The stories were awesome, and the husband was long suffering. Even with the hatred of foxes and a death of a dog I liked it

Someone with a crazy brain like mine got PUBLISHED?!?! Awesome!!!

This audiobook is very entertaining, especially for someone whose strange, random, twisted, simultaneously happy and spazzed out brain works anything like the author’s. Plus, her dad reminds me a bit (read: a LOT) of mine (save the homemade taxidermy but add in some creepy, black-eyed porcelain dolls found in yard sales and propped up on carefully-positioned swivel chairs set up slowly spin around so passersby could be “greeted” by what I thought of as the porcelain daughters of evil). True, this book is not Homer or Melville or Shakespeare, but none of those guys ever made me burst out laughing despite being 2 hours deep in LA traffic that has taken me a total of 9 miles from my original starting point, so take that ”Shakespeare,” or whatever your real name or names was or were! (To be fair, those authors probably weren’t going for the same audience or reaction, but that’s not the point! The point is that I most certainly would have dozed off in the car and seriously dinged my front bumper rolling into the stopped car in front of me on the 405 had I been listening to one of them. Or worse! Shakespeare’s speeches combined with my traffic-induced rage amplified by the practically backward movement of my car down the 10 might’ve led me to exit my vehicle and go running down the freeway yelling things like “Away, you starvelling, you elf-skin, you dried neat's-tongue, bull's-pizzle, you stock-fish!” A girl could easily get arrested for that and then who would take care of my dog?? See?? This book saved my dog!!!) Also, this book taught me what it must be like to listen to me telling stories in social settings once booze has been introduced... and I LIKED IT! So thanks Jenny and sorry boyfriend of mine, bc when we go to social events I’m gonna tell ALL the stories now!

The most reached for book in my library

Even thinking about this book makes me laugh! I’m part of her tribe and I’m crawling out of a depression and Jenny Lawson’s books were part of my comfy blanket attempt to survive my morning commute: my beatup Honda, a hot cappucino, and Jenny Lawson shouting “VAGINA!!” I was insulated from the world. Jenny made me feel a little less alone at the bottom of the stinking pool. And she is so. fucking. funny.

Laugh out loud enjoyment!

Jenny Lawson, A.K.A. “The Bloggess,” is simply amazing! As I listened to each story from Jenny’s life, I couldn’t stop laughing out loud. She has a quirky and unique sense of humor, that I find very endearing.
