Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Humor, 2013

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut.

Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes listeners on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Chapters include: "Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel", "A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband", "My Vagina Is Fine. Thanks for Asking", and "And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane".

Featured Article: The Best Audiobooks for Soothing Anxiety

The care of family, friends, and a trusted therapist, practicing mindfulness, engaging in calming hobbies like yoga, journaling, walking in nature, or listening to music—these are just a few of the strategies that can ease the overwhelm. We’ve handpicked some of the best audiobooks that can soothe the symptoms of anxiety, break patterns of negative or unhealthy thought, and help ground or comfort you when things get tough.

Editor's Pick

Alas, poor Jenny…
"Just like the taxidermized, Yorick-like mouse on the cover, Let's Pretend This Never Happened is awkward, weird, and hilarious—as is the writer, Jenny Lawson, of The Bloggess fame. Her narration, too, makes this listen truly sing—quite literally when she belts out the chapter titles like a manic, singsong opera star. The whole package is so genuine and vulnerable that I frequently laughed to the point of tears as she regaled her experiences dealing with anxiety, depression, and social missteps. This is a title that could only be written by Lawson herself."

Laugh out loud enjoyment!

Jenny Lawson, A.K.A. “The Bloggess,” is simply amazing! As I listened to each story from Jenny’s life, I couldn’t stop laughing out loud. She has a quirky and unique sense of humor, that I find very endearing.

Jenny Lawson is so incredibly funny and relatable (for me anyway-ADD, RA, plain crazy country folk). I will buy (and listen to multiple times) anything she writes!

Absolutely Hilarious

From the first sentence to the last this book is LOL hilarious. Listening to this in your car is a dangerous prospect. Mucho adult language, so this is definitely not kid friendly. But it is seriously funny stuff and I highly recommend it.

Also the author, Jenny Lawson, narrates it and I think that makes it even funnier and real.

Best memoir that includes random taxidermy!

Would you listen to Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) again? Why?

I plan to listen to this again so that I can share with friends - you can't just keep this awesomeness to yourself...and so that I won't feel so crazy about laughing my a$$ off in the car as I listened.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir)?

Fighting off vultures with a machete to protect a doggie grave!

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to recount here - the HR stories and meeting the future in-laws come to mind...

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Vultures aren't deterred by machetes!

Any additional comments?

Jenny, you're the best! Thanks for writing what most of us only think about or whisper to each other.

Listened to it twice. Back to back

Would you consider the audio edition of Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) to be better than the print version?

I barely ever read books in print. I commute 2 hours daily and have found that listening to a book is the best use of my time, I get tired of the radio, and talking on the phone. I literally laughed out loud several times and other people on the highway must have thought I was insane.

What other book might you compare Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) to and why?

I'd love to find another book to compare it to, but haven't yet. Chelsea Handler's books maybe?

What about Jenny Lawson’s performance did you like?

I liked that she is a great story teller and that she can't stay on task. I have ADD and sometimes paying attention to someone reading to me can be difficult, but I never lost focus on this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No. It's not a "moving" book. It's a funny book.

Any additional comments?

When she writes another book, I will be buying it.
