Publisher's summary

Many of us find ourselves caught somewhere between unbelieving activists and inactive believers. We can write a check to feed starving children or hold signs in the streets and feel like we've made a difference without ever encountering the faces of the suffering masses. In this book, Shane Claiborne describes an authentic faith rooted in belief, action, and love, inviting us into a movement of the Spirit that begins inside each of us and extends into a broken world.

Shane's faith led him to dress the wounds of lepers with Mother Teresa, visit families in Iraq amidst bombings, and dump $10,000 in coins and bills on Wall Street to redistribute wealth. Shane lives out this revolution each day in his local neighborhood, an impoverished community in North Philadelphia, by living among the homeless, helping local kids with homework, and "practicing resurrection" in the forgotten places of our world.

Shane's message will comfort the disturbed, and disturb the comfortable...but will also invite us into an irresistible revolution. His is a vision for ordinary radicals ready to change the world with little acts of love.

LISTENING TO SHANE CLAIBORNE IS A GIFT FROM GOD

I read Shane's book years ago., again and again and again, through out many years. Shane articulates Truth better than anyone ever had in my lifetime, prior and ever since...

Then, as if reading Irresistable Revolution was not sheer joy enough, I came across his Audible. I have listened again, and again, and again. Shane has a way of sharing God's Truth in The Way that reaches out and touches my whole being. Time and again...

Shane Claiborne says it as it really is. Sit back, rest in God's bosom, and listen to every life changing thought conveyed through this son of God. Let God reign in your heart...

Shalom!!! To Life and Wholeness!!!

Giving vs Living

Many times this book brought me to tears. I’m going to listen again to document innumerable quotes and stories. Here is one: Our culture never has a problem giving to the poor. It’s when you go to live with them or invite them to live with you we get wired.
And- when Jesus said the poor we will always have among us- can we take that literally? Meaning do we know the poor by name, visit their shanty, cry with them, heal their wounds, laugh with them? Jesus did. If I am not among poor is Jesus among us?

Irresistible

From the standpoint of a politically conservative Christian, I fell in love with the radically liberal spirit of Claiborne. I agree with only about 70% of what he says, and greatly disagree with his political views. My major criticism with the book is that it focuses on advocating for political change in our country, where I believe we should focus on church change. Outside of that criticism, Shane has inpired me to make radical changes in my life, and I highly recommend the book. I have a greater understanding of what the phrase, "blessed are the poor in spirit" actually means. Shane gives an example of what it means in a very practical sense, to give up everything and follow Jesus, and how wonderful and irresistible this can be. In recomending this book to friends, I warn them that after reading this, they might just get rid of everything they own and run off to Calcutta. So, be warned. It is irresistible.

Makes you think

Narrator, who was the author, passionately read his words. His experiences are amazing as he describes them. A lot of challenging thoughts, which make for a deep self evaluation. A good listen for self discovery and values.

Inspiring! Truthful!

This was a interesting book I'm in my 40s but I highly recommend it to all youth culture and people of my age to wake up and remember who Jesus is.

I love how the author is real with us and doesn't pretend to be self-righteous. He is the complete opposite. He speaks of truth.

This is a perfect book for youth groups!!!

A Wake-up Call

This isn't the typical "Christian" book. It isn't about a comfortable life and challenges current trends in Christianity. I recommend it.

Simple, genuine, and inspiring

Where does Irresistible Revolution rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It offers inspiration to a sold-out walk with Jesus

What does Shane Claiborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings the emotion of the ORIGINAL story teller; because he is :-P

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part that moved me was where the group of people seemed protected by God... (and, i'm SURE God's hand of protection WAS there, over them!)

Exactly what the Church needs!

Shane’s words are a prophetic call back to the basics of Jesus. I wish I’d read it years ago! I challenge every Christian to be brave enough to read this with an open heart. I highly recommend the audiobook version, Shane’s personality and heart for Jesus shines through!
