Publisher's summary

Winner of the 2015 Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album

Following up the phenomenal success of her headline-making New York Times bestseller I Hate Everyone...Starting With Me, the unstoppable Joan Rivers is at it again. When her daughter Melissa gives her a diary for Christmas, at first Joan is horrified - who the hell does Melissa think she is? That fat pig, Bridget Jones? But as Joan, being both beautiful and introspective, begins to record her day-to-day musings, she realizes she has a lot to say. About everything. And everyone, God help them.

The result? A no-holds-barred, delightfully vicious and always hilarious look at the everyday life of the ultimate diva. Follow Joan on a family vacation in Mexico and on trips between New York and Los Angeles where she mingles with the stars, never missing a beat as she delivers blistering critiques on current events, and excoriating insights about life, pop culture, and celebrities (from A to D list), all in her relentlessly funny signature style.

This is the Diary of a Mad Diva. Forget about Anais Nin, Anne Frank, and that whiner Sylvia Plath. For the first time in a century, a diary by someone that’s actually worth reading.

If you adore Joan Rivers,, you want this!

Where does Diary of a Mad Diva rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is actually the first time I've listened to an audiobook. I actually bought several of her books in hardback but don't have time to read much, so I bought them again for Audible, I can listen from my computer, in my car, anywhere I am. So, as to how this ranks - as it's the only book I've listened to (I just started "I Hate Everyone...") it was fantastic! I cried when Joan died so actually listening to her voice, reading her own books - it keeps her alive for me, if only for the length of a book.

What did you like best about this story?

Since this book was based on a "diary" format, it was hilarious listening to "one year" of Joan's life. Of course it got off track at times but, being a diary, was always brought back. And again, it's awesome hearing Joan's voice again!

Which scene was your favorite?

It was funny, I laughed my butt off from beginning to end!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, laugh, laugh all the way through.

Any additional comments?

I'm a HUGE Joan Rivers fan, I bawled when she died, so this is a great "discovery" for me - that I can listen to her comedy in her own voice forever. And if I listened to any one of her books 10 times or more, I'd still be hilariously laughing. Although it can be embarrassing at stop lights, being the only one in the car, and I'm laughing so hard that my hands are slapping against the steering wheel - I hope people don't notice!

Tedious and tiresome

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I loved Joan Rivers, but this book is endless one liners intended to shock. It ran out of funny in the first hour. Forced humor that would have been far better delivered in small doses. Just such a disappointment.

Not a book, really is a diary!

What would have made Diary of a Mad Diva better?

Frankly I would have preferred it if Ms. Rivers had not written it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

'And the Band Played On' by Randy Shilts

Which scene was your favorite?

Cannot think of one I am afraid.

What character would you cut from Diary of a Mad Diva?

None

Any additional comments?

Joan Rivers was, up to the last five years of her life, one of the most brilliant comediens of our time. Her timing and satire was unsurpassed and her previous books were brilliant. I fully intend to listen to them as it has been years since I read them. Her performance on this last volume was still good but the constant bad language and tasteless tales were not funny, just reminiscent of tired performances of bawdy drunk 'has beens' in the Soho district between sad strip show performances of old yet friendly strippers!

Joan Rivers you are missed for your real talent.
Rest in Peace Ms. Rivers.
