Publisher's summary

Four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein takes on New York City’s very own political firebrand, Bella Abzug, in his new raucous, heart-rending, and absurdly humorous solo show. Set in 1976, on the eve of her bid to become New York State’s first female senator, Bella Bella finds this larger-than-life, truth-slinging, groundbreaking, hat-wearing icon squirreled away in the bathroom of a midtown hotel awaiting that night’s election results while a coterie of family and celebs await her entrance. Directing is Kimberly Senior (The Niceties).

Powerful and timely.

You don’t have to be Jewish or from New York or agree with her politics to marvel at the force of nature that was “Battling Bella.”

She was an incredible woman

I remember seeing reading about as a teen in the 70’s. Her dreams were stunned by sexism, anti-semitism and conservativism. She did so much INSPITE of all those obstacles. Bravo Harvey!!

Love Harvey Fierstein!

Let's face it the narration by the author is everything with this book. But the story is interesting too, Bella Abzug was amazing and accomplished quite a bit and it was lovely to learn about her life and career.

Interesting Subject, Good Performance

Harvey Fierstein is an excellent writer and performer and the subject of this piece is an interesting character with some fun anecdotes, but without an inherent emotional connection to New York and particularly Jewish New York humor and society or a strong interest in US Politics of the 1960s and 70s it’s a little hard to connect to fully. Nonetheless, even without those it’s a worthwhile and interesting listen.

GREAT! Humorous and poignant.

This is a humorous and poignant portrayal of a decidedly outspoken woman senator who believed that women should have a seat at the table in politics. It is witty and intelligent, rye look at the world of poltics. If you have any interest in politics it is a must listen !
