Publisher's summary

"The latest mystery from author David Rosenfelt is a wonderful weave of twists and unpredictability, ably narrated by Fred Berman, whose joy at narration is evident from the beginning." (AudioFile Magazine)

The next exciting installment in best-selling David Rosenfelt's Doug Brock series.

Doug Brock hasn't had it easy since his getting shot in the line of duty as a New Jersey state police officer. Between the amnesia and having to solve two murder cases, it hasn't been the most restful recovery.

Now, the cold-case department is checking evidence from a murder case Doug was investigating before the accident, but the DNA points to a man Doug eliminated as a suspect...and he remembers none of it.

Doug begins to reinvestigate what turns out to be a series of unsolved killings and must retrace his steps to discover why he would have let the suspect go free. What he uncovers may be more dangerous than any case he's faced yet.

With Black and Blue, nationally best-selling author David Rosenfelt continues his thrilling new series featuring Doug Brock.

Not in the Andy Carpenter league

The story lacked something, maybe tried to hard. I never bought the plot. It’s ok but lacks the unique and interesting characters from the “dog “ series.

Almost ruined Andy Carpenter

The story is okay . . I have gotten to where I know if anyone is helping out the investigation by being cooperative (both in these books and the Andy Carpenter series). . then they are the bad guy. . .but this narrator almost ruined Andy Carpenter for me for life. He made Andy sound like Marlon Brando from the Godfather. . . I have to get that voice out of my head. Surely MacMillan publishing could have had Grover Gardner read a couple of chapters. Honestly it was not good. And I am not saying the narrator was bad. . it just when you a conceived voice for a character and that voice changes a 180 degrees . you are going to notice. .

When I first started these books I wasn't that impressed. . but they are growing on me. There are a couple of cute scenes with girlfriend.

He’s no Andy Carpenter

I enjoyed the new characters and the usual banter. Bobo is great but will always love Tara. My only criticism with the narrator is his transition to Andy Carpenter who he makes sound like a bad imitation of Joe Pesci. It’s just not working....

I was disappointed

To realized that the reader wasn’t the same as the first Doug Brock book...it put me off at first but I recuperated enough to enjoy the continuation of the series

David Rosenfelt never disappoints and is one of my favorite Audible authors

Engaging book

While the stories are quite different, it is nice to have characters from David Rosenfelt’s other series make an appearance

Heck no! only one man can be Andy Carpenter

Black and Blue is a thrilling story with lots of twists and turns. Rosenfelt presented multiple suspects. Appreciate that no gangsters were involved in this part of the series. There is also less emphasis on Doug’s loss of memory which is good. The references to BoBo the dog are funny. There are several humorous statements or comments made by Nate, Doug or Jesse through out the novel. What is really funny is the voice for Andy Carpenter. He sounds like a woman. LOL, pathetic. Grover Gardner should have been hired to read the few lines assigned to Andy. If any additional cross overs between characters in these stories are planned, please hire Grover. Fred Berman is a wonderful narrator for this series. I love the New Jersey accents for Doug and Nate. I think that his timing is off for some of the jokes or sarcastic remarks. All of the women sound alike, but Berman soften their voices. I want to like this series but something is missing. The characters lack substance and depth. It is difficult to care about any of them. The donut eating policeman is a tired clichè. The captain is too gruff and over the top. There are loose threads and unexplained occurrences. What happened to the couple that were fighting in the street? I missed why certain people were killed. The story line is not complex and is like an old fashioned cheap magazine serial. Rosenfelt has a gem in Andy Carpenter and his stand alone novels are very good. More work is needed in my opinion with the Doug Brock story if the intent is for it to be a series that listeners can hardly wait for the next book. I can wait.
