Publisher's summary

This program is read by the author.

From New Yorker and Onion writer and comedian Blythe Roberson, How to Date Men When You Hate Men is a comedy philosophy audiobook aimed at interrogating what it means to date men within the trappings of modern society.

Blythe Roberson’s sharp observational humor is met by her openhearted willingness to revel in the ugliest warts and shimmering highs of choosing to live our lives among other humans. She collects her crushes like ill-cared-for pets, skewers her own suspect decisions, and assures listeners that any date you can mess up, she can top tenfold. And really, was that date even a date in the first place?

With sections like: Real Interviews with Men About Whether or Not It Was a Date; Good Flirts That Work; Bad Flirts That Do Not Work; and Definitive Proof That Tom Hanks Is the Villain of You’ve Got Mail, How to Date Men When You Hate Men is a one-stop shop for dating advice when you love men but don't like them.

Early Praise for How to Date Men When You Hate Men:

"How to Date Men When You Hate Men is an incredibly funny read that was surely not written when Blythe was supposed to be working for me." (Stephen Colbert)

"Funny, sharp, and feminist fun in a way we’re led to believe isn’t possible. You’ll have a blast reading this and then date...or not date anyone because you are living your best single life with new best friend Roberson by your side.” (Phoebe Robinson, New York Times best-selling author of You Can't Touch My Hair)

Critic reviews

"Roberson’s achievement in remaining funny while excavating her pain is just straightforwardly heroic." (The New Republic)

Millennial whining

I thought this was a comedy. I couldn’t get passed the first 5 min listening to her complain how oppressed she is by men.

Yikes

I think I might not be the target audience for this book. There really any substantive advice just chapters of examples of why dating sucks. I don't need to read a book to know this. If it was funny or witty maybe I would feel different but you know if was just meh.

Don’t waste your time...

Author has ZERO dating experience. She talked about a “flirt” for an excruciatingly long time. I couldn’t even get past chapter 3 because it was so bad. Which is something I never do. I usually force myself to finish a book even if I’m not crazy about it out of principle. But this was just awful.

Disappointed

Disgracing an officeholder to make points about your personal guy relationships is a bit unprofessional and cheap shot and totally unreliable. What does a politician have to do with your actual personal experience? If you have had a one on one with them; then by all means you can pile them in with your other experiences. No credibility.

Still looking for the book that solves this riddle

I actually really do want to know how to date men when you hate men, and this book doesn't answer that question. With the misleading title, it would've been awesome if this book offered a range of women's dating experiences.

Dissappinting

I was looking forward to a progressive feminist review and solutions to being attracted to men without feeling like you’re falling into old gender norms. So much of the book was spent talking about how she couldn’t tell if anything was a date or not. Something I have yet to find relatable and hope to never find relatable.

Phenomenal! Pretty sure the author is my long lost soul sister

I’m not going to lie, I bought this cover ENTIRELY based on the title and cover art (both bomb!)
However, as I listened to this book over the last few weeks I felt really seen. It’s lovely hearing a similar narrative to yours, spoken to you in a truthful but comedic way. How to Date Men When You Hate Men is worth your time. Blythe is honest, vulnerable, and uniquely funny. 1000/10 recommend.

In the beginning of the book she takes time to explain that she is a cis, white, college educated woman and she is mostly discussing hating cis, white, college educated men-I appreciated her acknowledgment of privilege and inequality.

Not a unifying book

Toxic behavior is spread by toxic people. Think and Grow Rich is a book that changes people for the better, this book divides and toxifies peoples outlook on life. This is the only book I have ever left a poor review for because is that off putting.

Garbage. cis white male here.

I bought this book as I am always looking to extend my worldview and maybe learn a few things. if I can learn went some woman hate men then I can learn how to walk around that and be a better person. this bitch does nothing but complain about how dating sucks. it's a compleat "poor me" without any wisdom or insight into the other perspective or how things can be fixed. already returned the title, not worth your time or money
