Publisher's summary

In a Post-Apocalyptic world of Magic and Machinery, Jack Knight is an orphan who finds himself caught between a life-altering decision.

Join the military and fight the demon hordes or sell his soul to the Corpos. Both options having minimal appeal to a shut-in like Jack. Thanks to the high cost of living, and his sister’s medical expenses, Jack has never given much thought to what he’d want to do with life, always living paycheck to paycheck, scrounging just enough to keep the lights on and his sister safe. However, in a strange turn of events that nearly kills him, an Angel presents him with a third option.

Awaken and become her instrument of revenge with the ultimate power.

Ellory Lane is what kept me in this book

The author did a letter version of Chekhov’s gun, and they never reveal the contents of the letter. You have to wait until the end credits just to find out that this is only act 1, so it was a tricky call if a second book was not going to be made (hopefully it still is). That’s why the story only gets 4/5. Ellory Lane!! She gets 6/5 stars her range in voices is amazing and her flirtatious playfulness voice come in well use for this book. If it wasn’t for her I probably would’ve stopped this book because Dylan Wheeler was bad, his Spanish was unintelligible. I had to rewind 3 times just to understand his pronunciation of the Spanish language and it took me out of the pull this book had. I understand Dylan is a good actor because he had a wide range of voices but that Spanish was beyond bad. Next time Royal Guard Publishing has Spanish in a book get a bilingual narrator. The one thing Royal Guard Publishing did right was make duet narration, I’m been searching for this kind of work since listening to audiobooks and now that’s all I want to listen to. Duet narration is just awesome

Surprisingly good, worth the listen.

Overall this story was really well written and narrated. Good character and world development and a solid major and minor story arc established. Looking forward to the next installment which will be an insta-buy for me.

Spec"quack"ular book!

Dungeon Ducky writes an action packed coming into power story that kept me enthralled throughout.
Having the MC, Jack, merge with an "angel" is something you'd definitely want if you are gaining powerful magic and fighting demons.
The magic system and the bad guys, monsters and humans, really help this story seem fresh and original. The characters are realistic and written well.
The writing and narration make this book come alive and bring you into the world and action.
I was gifted this book with the expectation of an honest review.
I give this book 7 or 8 out of 5 stars.
I'm really looking forward to the next book. This looks to be forming up to be an amazing series.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. It's got a lot of action and adventure, and a fight against a government stooge. The storyline is pretty interesting and the narration is also awesome.

I was pleasantly surprized.

I'm a big fan of litrpg, as a genre. So I saw this and being between books decided to give it a shot, fearing due to the cliché of the cover that it would be overly sexualized. Thankfully, I was wrong. While there is innuendo and hormones, it is not taken too far. It is a well-made world, and while the plot is very convenient for our MC, it is done believably. I will happily await the rest of the series.

Super good book.

First you have the grimy streets and a poor guy just trying to help pay the medical bills to keep his sister alive. Then he gets ka-powed and merged with another being, kills one of the people that caused the ka-pow event, then has to run from his government. Whew, those are just some of the high points that are in between all the other bits of intrigue that's going on. With the description I just gave, you can just imagine what I left out and how much more of the story there is.
Once our MC arrives in his new country, he's greeted by his rich and influential family member (I think it was an aunt) that is connected to the royal family. There are fights to prove himself, and a military that he signed up to join to get his sister's med bills paid for. Again, there is a whole lot of story being left out because this is a review and is just supposed to (hopefully) get you interested enough to buy the book. You might want to save this one for the weekend though or you could be missing the sleep you need to go to work the next morning. I hope you can tell that I really enjoyed this story because I did. Absolutely recommend getting this one.

Another great book by Dungeon Ducky. You will not be disappointed. Also the dual narration really brings the story to life.

helluva ride

an excellent and at times hilarious story. it's an epic coming of age story where the MC does whatever is necessary to keep his little sister safe and happy. even if that means overthrowing an empiric regime.
