Publisher's Summary

The reality behind reality TV! Hollywood's favorite mom-star tells it like it is.

Tori Spelling is the first to admit that the "reality" behind her popular television show, Tori & Dean, isn't always real. Not even Star magazine could invent the true chaos that happens behind the scenes. Luckily, Tori is famously honest and self-deprecatingly funny when it comes to her personal life - she's always "Spelling it like it is". Life is never boring at Tori's house, but since the release of her New York Times best-selling memoirs sTORI Telling, Mommywood, and Uncharted terriTORI, things have been especially unpredictable:

  • Finding out she was pregnant with her third baby after nearly vomiting live on the Home Shopping Network
  • Trying to hide her fourth pregnancy so soon after giving birth (as her stylist said, "Who would be that crazy?")
  • Being rescued from a paparazzo by a mom lynch mob
  • Stalking her celebrity neighbor
And then there was allowing cameras to film every personal detail of her life - from the most challenging time in her marriage to the only time in six years when she really felt as though those cameras invaded her privacy. Tori shares these stories and many more with the usual humor, candor, and down-to-earth charm that her fans love. She also writes openly about her biggest challenges: terrifying health problems; her guilt over missing baby Hattie's early months because she was in the hospital on bed rest; her struggles (and failures) to live within her means after growing up in opulence; the discovery that she has a lot in common with her late mega-producer father, Aaron Spelling; and how she fell in love with Dean all over again. (Hint: it didn't happen at their vow-renewal ceremony.)

After years of revealing her everyday antics on-screen, Tori's life is still full of surprises. Slowing down long enough to enjoy them? Now that's another sTORI.

    "Guilty Pleasure"

Yes, I will admit that I am a closet Tori Spelling fan--she is so funny and insightful. I've listened to her other books and always loved the way she relates her stories even if they don't paint her in the best light. This book was especially interesting in light of her current woes.

"As usual, very cute and fun"
Would you consider the audio edition of Spelling It Like It Is to be better than the print version?

Yes, I like hearing her read it in order to know exactly the tone she was going for.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Spelling It Like It Is?

Liam telling a woman he doesn't like it when Stella's pussy gets red.

Which character – as performed by Tori Spelling – was your favorite?

    Tori, obviously

    Any additional comments?

The only thing that irks me is when she says she has money problems when clearly she still has far more money than the average person. She is far from middle class and even in the worst of problems was spending plenty of money.

What did you love best about Spelling It Like It Is?

If you're a Tori fan, as I am, I think you'll love listening to her read her own story in her own words. I had no idea how much she'd gone through with her pregnancy. I really enjoyed it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I was going to stay up all night & read it but forced myself to go to bed & I finished it the next day.

    "Disappointed"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I wanted to like this book and Tori. I was hoping the 4 star review average was accurate, but I have to disagree. I think people who have been pregnant multiple times and are full time mom's might enjoy this book more than me.

Has Spelling It Like It Is turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No, i love celebrity memoirs.

How could the performance have been better?

I wish she wouldn't have discussed her pregnancies problems, hospital visits and bodily fluids over and over again. It was WAY TOO much for me. It made me think she was a hypochondriac needing attention from her family and her fans.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spelling It Like It Is?

    The hospital visits!!!

    Any additional comments?

I'm sure Tori is a good person, I just didn't vibe with her story.

    "Wonderful book"

I love all of Tori's books and this one lives up to expectations. She is a great story teller, like her father. And she is witty and funny. Loved the part about the pet pig sleeping in bed with them. I was really laughing. She is leading an extraordinary life. The book held my interest and is a fun listen.

Would you listen to Spelling It Like It Is again? Why?

    Probably not

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was long, needed to be better edited

What about Tori Spelling’s performance did you like?

Tori is a performer, it was enjoyable listening to her

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Not really

    Any additional comments?

I feel very sorry for Tori. She really is a hot mess! She has managed to hook up with a complete loser. He uses her, humilates her yet she still hangs on. She appears to have no self worth which is very sad!!!

    "Mixed feelings"

Some parts of this were really interesting -- hearing about Tori's problematic fourth pregnancy, her silly menagerie of farm animals, and some of the behind the scenes info about reality TV -- but for the most part she came off as being a spoiled brat. As a narrator, she often sounded like she was whining. She seems to be out of touch with reality -- she claims to have financial problems, but she still insists on renting beach houses (when she already lives in California and could drive to the beach), traveling on a whim, moving every five minutes, enrolling her kids in expensive private schools, and throwing lavish parties. She doesn't understand the difference between needs and wants, and it got to be frustrating at times. I know I can exaggerate and say I need something when I know I don't, and maybe that's what she was doing, but I'm pretty sure her kids would be just fine without a pool of their own.

Overall, this was a really mixed book with some good parts and some really annoying ones. It isn't a bad listen, if you don't mind listening to Tori the whole time, even when she's whining.

What made the experience of listening to Spelling It Like It Is the most enjoyable?

Not particularly a fan of Tori Spelling or her shows, but she can write a amusing, interesting and even moving book, that I have no trouble getting through & will reread. This is the 3rd one I've read & my favorite -next to sTori Telling-.
I'm a nurse so the "gore" others have complained about didn't effect the story for me.

Fun read/listen! Does jump around a bit but fairly easy to follow. Cannot wait for the next book she writes.
