Read by the author.

We live in a world of noise where everyone is so quick to speak. When we slow down and give someone our full attention, we offer them a safe place to be fully heard and accepted.

Hear’s the Thing is a story about what is possible when someone is brave enough to listen to others… and, ultimately, themselves without judgement.

For Cody Alan, one of country music’s most famous on-air radio and TV personalities, listening to other people has always been a crucial part of his role. It was by fostering his ability to hear others that he discovered the person he most needed to listen to was himself. Listening ultimately led him on a journey of self-discovery where he found the courage to come out as gay, the openness to question spiritually, and the strength to explore a new definition of parenting and family.

In his debut memoir, Hear’s the Thing, Cody shares some of the many lessons he’s learned along the way such as:

  • How to actively listen with empathy and without judgment
  • Why a willingness to “let people in” better equips you to receive from others
  • How genuine attentiveness can help you build healthier and deeper relationships

The art of listening is often lost but Cody’s story will inspire you to hear that inner voice that is leading you to a deeper connection with yourself and the people around you.

Amazing Story of an Amazing Man

It's been said often but it's the truth, once I picked it up I couldn't put thus book down. The Book is great. As Cody shares his story you come to see he is as Amazing as you think he is from listening to his show.
His story is one of a life well lived. If we could all be as authentic as him the world would be a better place.
Buy the Book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lessons Learned

This was a fantastic look at a public persona many may feel they already know after years of listening to him on their radios and seeing him on television. Cody shares his life, love, and career journeys with honesty and openness and imparts wonderful words of wisdom along the way. I enjoyed the storytelling and the opportunity to get to know more about him. I also enjoyed stories he told about his working and personal relationships with country music artists. Highly recommend this title. The only thing that stuck out to me in the narration was that Cody pronounced his husband's name as "Trey," but readers who were narrating letters from friends and family pronounced it "Trey-uh." I'll choose to go with Cody's pronunciation.

An Honest Conversation

The book didn’t feel like other books I’ve listened to or read. It just felt like Cody decided to have a conversation with us and he started writing/talking. It felt like he didn’t do a lot of editing or cutting out certain parts that didn’t fit, and that made it seem so much more honest.
