Feel Good Funny and Beyond!

I never understood the genius of this icon, or why he has become such a force of nature. Listening to this book has made it crystal clear! William Shatner is a character. Bill is an inspirational, no nonsense, talented, funny, honest, ambitious, hard working, authentic man. Bill explains how Shatner succeeded and continues to succeed. The book is so well paced and delivered that I'm sure it's better listened to than read. Mr. Shatner shares the wisdom & candid anecdotes of his 80 years, and his "tips" on attitude and success. While not a Trekkie, I understand the appeal of the franchise and its impact on pop culture. This is not a book for written for Trek fans only. If you want something in the smart/funny vein of Tina Fey's Bossypants, say YES to this book!

Shatner on Shatner

Listen to William Shatner ramble on about his life. He's pretty entertaining, but don't expect any revelations.

Love me some Shatner!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Why not listen to the man himself explain how the world works in his mind? I simply love to listen to his thoughts. He makes me laugh with his train of thoughts. If you need to have a
to hear a second opinion to things, listen to Shatnerverse! You will end up liking your world better...LOL

What did you like best about this story?

I like that Shatner himself is narrating his own book. I like his voice!

What does William Shatner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

When we read books, we tend to insert tones and feeling to it. However, When the original writer reads it to you, you will "hear" what he really meant because it is "his tones and feeling" in the story. So listening to Shatner reading his own story helped me to understand what he really meant to say.

Shatner Rules Indeed

William Shatner is very funny in this audiobook that he reads - could anyone else even do it? Yes, there is a few minutes where he goes off on a rant of Esperanto but that's forgiveable because of the rest of the book. This is not a history of StarTrek. It's a look at how his personal life intersects his all-too-public life. Like the time when he was passing a kidney stone and for few minutes he was out in the hallway with his legs resting in the stirrups. A person walks by and says "Look, Captain Kirk is having a baby". You can probably imagine how Star Trek has come to dominate not his life but his public image. And that must very annoying. But Shatner discusses this and many other topics with an acerbic wit. This book is almost as funny as my favority Audible book: Bossypants by Tina Fey.

funny, light read and

What made the experience of listening to Shatner Rules the most enjoyable?

the way Shatner expressed his ideas is really original. as if he is just talking to me. very funny at times. there are some serious part but most is interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

him... lots of experiences in life.

Have you listened to any of William Shatner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes. his autobiography - "Up Till Now". better if he was the one reading his own work. more intimate.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

it made me smile at times. this is especially rare.

Any additional comments?

I like the way Shatner empathise on certain parts of the book. Unlike OTHER books that i have downloaded, he knows. I just wish some books that i get from audible.com have narrators that know WHEN AND WHEN NOT TO emphasise, give emotions and DO NOT SOUND MONOTONE....

Entertaining and sometimes inspiring romp

Worth a listen. Shatner is an entertaining, witty and clever fellow who has achieved a lot in his long life. Some of his 'behind the scenes' stories are interesting to fans of his work and his optimism and character shines through the book well. To write and then perform a work like this after turning 80 is a remarkable feat in itself and he deserves your credit based on that alone.

Having said that though, don't expect this book to change your life. It'll put a smile on your dial and maybe put an extra spring in your step a few times but this is geared towards entertainment, not therapy. Overall I have no regrets about buying it.

Shatner Rules Indeed

Many have wondered if this guy takes himself seriously. This audiobook proves it doesn't matter because either way it is funny as hell! If it was read by anyone else though it would have been worthless. So good thing they got Shat to read Shat. While listening I shat my pants many times.
