Publisher's summary

A cold case, a guilty conscience, and four determined detectives...

When children Josh and Dilys find a body in the woods on the outskirts of their small Cotswold village, they are too terrified to report it. But when, as adults, Josh discovers that his sister has kept a memento - the victim's charm bracelet - he feels compelled to share the secret.

When Josh unburdens himself to retired superintendent Alan Markby, his instincts tell him that this is linked to a missing person, a case long grown cold. The missing girl was last seen in the region currently under the jurisdiction of Superintendent Ian Carter and Inspector Jess Campbell. Joining forces, Markby and wife Meredith come out of retirement to hunt down the killer with Campbell and Carter, a murderer who by now must be safe in the knowledge that they've got away with it...

Still a great series

All the great elements of the other books in the series. I love the humor and characters. And, I really like the complex elements of the mystery. It's not just about who done it.

I missed Judith Boyd!

With this new narrator, Jilly Bond, gone was Jess’ brogue and Ian’s posh speech. It changed the character’s identity. Very disappointing. I see that the last book in this series is also done by Ms Bond. The writing was everything that I came to expect. I just wish that it could have been performed by Ms Boyd.

Narrator is wrong

Not only is the narrator not the original — always annoying — but her weird inflections are very distracting. Especially bad is how she voices male characters: nasally, like they have a cold, and inexplicably jocular, no matter what the situation.

Candy

I thought this was a very good audible story! I had read another person didn’t like the narrator but I thought it she excellent!!! She did a grand array of various voice, one of the best I thought and I have over 100 audible books in my library. I just wish the author would hurry along a certain relationship who both like to talk about their work!! Come on Ian!! Hurry up!!!

Good Story Poor Narration

I liked the combining of Mitchell/Markby and Carter/ Campbell. But the narrator made their voices sound as if they were about 103 years old. I hated that aspect

Preposterous

While I enjoyed the narrator’s performance, the plot was totally preposterous, with the solution driven by leaps of reason on the part of the coppers, based on no facts. I’ll avoid this author in future.

Narrator Awful

The narrator made everyone, at least every man, sound like an idiot. The previous narrations in this series were good but this was terrible.

Jilly Bond was the WORST choice as narrator for this book.!!!

What a HORRIBLE choice for narrator to the last installment of this series,... in a perfect world Judith Boyd would have had the job throughout the series,.. but alas,.. they’ve had 3 separate types with their own interpretations of the main characters, Jilly Bond got ALL of the principle player’s personalities WRONG..!!..
Absolutely Horrible..
