Publisher's summary

The international best seller

"Malby-Anthony offers a book of great inspiration and wide appeal to nature-loving readers." (Publishers Weekly)

A heart-warming sequel to the international best seller The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony's wife Françoise Malby-Anthony.

A chic Parisienne, Françoise never expected to find herself living on a South African game reserve. But then, she fell in love with conservationist Lawrence Anthony, and everything changed. After Lawrence’s death, Françoise faced the daunting responsibility of running Thula Thula without him. Poachers attacked their rhinos, their security team wouldn’t take orders from a woman, and the authorities were threatening to cull their beloved elephant family. On top of that, the herd’s feisty new matriarch, Frankie, didn’t like her.

In this heart-warming and moving audiobook, Françoise describes how she fought to protect the herd and to make her dream of building a wildlife rescue center a reality. She found herself caring for a lost baby elephant who turned up at her house and offering refuge to traumatized orphaned rhinos and a hippo called Charlie who was scared of water. As she learned to trust herself, she discovered she’d had Frankie wrong all along.

Filled with extraordinary animals and the humans who dedicate their lives to saving them, An Elephant in My Kitchen is a captivating and gripping listen.

Fabulous story of life in Africa

I really enjoyed this touching story about life and community, not just of people but of the animals as well. I hope I can go see the Thula Thula conservation site someday. It sounds magical.

You've Got to Read this Book

An Elephant in My Kitchen is another must-read about the Thula Thula Nature Reserve in South Africa. Written by Lawrence Anthony's widow, her story is the continuation of their struggle to keep Africa's endangered wildlife from going extinct at the hands of humans. The book was fraught with fantastic success stories only to crash into horrifying tragedies. It was an emotional journey that everyone needs to read. Roshina Ratnam's narration added poignancy to the real-life drama etched in the pages of this biography.

The reader has an English Accent...

This is an awesome story it's told by the Author Francoise Malby-Anthony a french born woman who moved to an African Game Reserve in South Africa. The reader should have a french accent...or at least when Francoise is "speaking" not an English one

Beautifully touching story

Another beautiful book about Thula Thula, the amazing work they do there and the wonderful animals that live there. This “sequel” to the “The Elephant Whisperer” is written by Lawrence Anthony’s wife, Francoise, and is told from her perspective. It is also part memoir but mostly the parts of her life that involve her relationship with Lawrence and her life on Thula Thula. It is beautifully written and tells a story that is heartbreaking and infuriating as well as uplifting and hopeful. I highly recommend reading this as a unit with Lawrence Anthony’s book “The Elephant Whisperer”, however it can totally be enjoyed on its own. (I do strongly recommend “The Elephant Whisperer”, a stirringly beautiful book.)

I listened to this on audio and it was most definitely worth the Audible credit. The narrator has a great voice that’s very easy to listen to. That said, this book would still be wonderful in print. It’s a book well worth reading.

The love and dedication to saving the animals is what I loved the most.

I liked that there wasn’t and cursing, just an abundance of love for the animals and the people who worked hard to save them.

I had previously read The Elephant Whisperer and this lovely book by Francoise was a wonderful follow-up story of Tulu Tulu Reserve. I would recommend this book to all animal lovers!!
