On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Story
Many years ago, Sir Aelfric and his nine companions saved the world, seizing the Dark Lord's cursed weapons, along with his dread city of Necrad. That was the easy part. Now, when Aelfric—keeper of the cursed sword Spellbreaker—learns of a new and terrifying threat, he seeks the nine heroes once again. But they are wandering adventurers no longer. Yesterday's eager heroes are today's weary leaders—and some have turned to the darkness, becoming monsters themselves. If there's one thing Aelfric knows, it's slaying monsters. Even if they used to be his friends.

The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Imagine it were possible to bring the characters from a book to life. Not like when you listen to an audiobook with such enchantment that the characters seem to jump off the pages and into your bedroom...but for real. Imagine they could actually climb out of the pages and into our world. Then imagine if those characters brought their world into ours.

Publisher's summary
Peace bought by blood seldom lasts, for vengeance knows no end. The same is true for mortals and gods alike. Decades, centuries, and even eras may pass, but the cycle remains. As war and revolution rise again, Zephyrus finds himself at the center of it all. Chosen by the gods, hailed as a prophet of liberation, and forged as a weapon to break the kingdom and restore balance to the realm, hope rests squarely on his shoulders.
If only he could remember....
Enslaved as a gladiator and thrust into a prince’s game of espionage, Zephyrus has only two clues to help unlock his shattered past: a prophecy foretelling destruction, and a letter to the enemy king, promising peace. Now Zephyrus must survive the dangers of the gladiatorial arena, the cunning fury of the prince’s enemies, and the gods’ torment if he is to find the truth of his identity and fulfill his fate. But to have any hope of breaking the cycle, first he must secure his freedom—and not just from his slavers.
Within this vengeful realm, a queen protecting her kingdom, a prince defending his father, and a gladiator slave haunted by a prophecy each contend for their own brand of freedom. But the gods have an agenda of their own, and they'll use any vessel—patrician, plebeian, or slave—to see it done.
The scales must be balanced. By peace. Or by blood.

It turns out, the "Demon Weed" actually is a gateway drug! Who knew? Tom Perkinje certainly didn't. He had never smoked anything in his life, but as the new kid in town trying to make friends, he foolishly let his new buddy Reggie talk him into trying a joint that he'd picked up from a new dealer. Before he knew it, Tom was having a seriously bad trip; a total out-of-body experience where the world had dissolved around him.

I was hanging out with some buddies, doing a little caving, when everything went south. When I woke up, I was in some kind of medieval dungeon. Totally naked and in the dark. Luckily, I had a neighbor in a cell near me. One with a decidedly sexy feminine voice. When she explained to me that she was due to be executed and I was in line to be brainwashed, there was only one thing to do. We had to escape.

When she's assigned to a small exploration crew, she's eager to make a difference. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something. Story
The Galactic Consensus arrived on ships as large as skyscrapers, crafted from glittering alloys that no human scientist could even begin to understand. They followed the trail of century-old television transmissions to welcome us into the galactic community...only to recoil in horror at what they found. They concluded that humans were unfit to be trusted with the advanced technologies that member-states of the Consensus freely traded with each other.

Could not stop listening!
I’ll be honest, this was my first ever audiobook, and I mostly read non fiction, but WOW!! Not only did this story make me a fan of fantasy, the talent of the narrator kept me so engaged I made it through the whole book in three days.
Facciola’s ability to world build paired with superb storytelling was both delightful and riveting. Yet the real treasure of this book is buried within each character’s internal narrative. Each of the many characters face brutal yet relatable choices. Torn between love and duty, saving and sacrifice and belief and purpose you are lead to think you have it figured out only to be met by new twists, turns, tips and surprises.
A must listen!

Amazing Narration!
The Scales of Balance is one of my favorite books of 2023, so naturally I had to check out the narration for another read! I was not disappointed! Landon is incredible in bringing life to these characters and world, I could listen to his narration all day. And he sings?! This audiobook is the full package. You should definitely give it a listen if you love epic fantasy!

outstanding thrilling and original!!
brilliant character work and equally brilliant pacing!! AVR combines the perspective of more than half a dozen characters so skillfilly that I always knew what every character was about and was gripped by their stories. I read a lot of epic fantasy but I haven't ever seen it framed through a Roman gladiatorial lens before which created a refreshing and different feeling world filled with New politics and intrigue to explore! very excited to read book two!!

Great for fans of Epic fantasy
It was hard for me to keep up with all the different povs. I'm not someone who is big in high or epic fantasy, however, I believe for someone who loves epic fantasy would love this books, especially if they love Roman civilization.

Perfectly paced!!!
I’ve never left a review on a book before but this book not only promised and delivered on said promise it surpassed it! The pacing of this book was perfection! Not a moment was wasted or felt drawn out.
Each character was memorable, impactful, and kept me wondering how they would go about getting what they wanted and if they would change in order to do so. I’m beyond excited for the next installment and can’t wait to see what more there is to uncover and learn about these characters, the world, and the gods!
If you love epic fantasy this is a must read! All I can say is that you won’t be disappointed! Thank you Tim for such an exciting adventure! ☺️
