Long Time Favorite
This book has long been a favorite of mine with the parallel stories housed within. The narrator does a lovely job of capturing each character. I am sure this is only one of the thousand times I will meet such beloved, flawed, amazing characters as I listen again to bring them to life once more.
Bertrice Small introduced me to historical romances and there will never be another like she was.

A Tad Dated
I was listening thinking boy this sure reminds me of romance novels from the 80s. It wasn't until the end that i realized it was written in 91. Knowing that makes all the rape easier to handle.

Most loved story!
Great writer, beautiful story, I want more of this! I want to write like Bertrice Small and I always enjoy reading this particular one! It’s full of time, life and seem to be timeless. Amazing!

Bertrice Small is one of my favorite storytellers!
This narrative has utterly captivated and devastated me. The brilliance of the dual timelines is remarkable. And the lore—the exquisitely poignant and tragic lore—caught me off guard. I was unprepared for the emotional impact; it left me shattered.
🎙️ The audiobook is worth the credit! Excellent narration by Anne Flosnik!
🎧 Recommended Listening Speed: 1.7+
