Publisher's summary

A Modern Day Havamal is a fresh and new take on the words of Odin presented in many previous translations. This book is designed to offer the Havamal in a easy-to-understand and current take on the English language. Modern followers of Norse Heathenry, Asatru, and other pagan paths should find this version of the Havamal to be a good listen and deliver the spirit of the words of Odin in a new way.

okay but seems archaic

Don't get me wrong, this is probably a fantastic translation/summarization but some of the "teachings" contained therein just seem a little archaic by modern standards. don't get me wrong, if you're interested in Vikings and want a little insight into their way of life, this is a great place to start. Just don't expect any groundbreaking truths here...

First “book on tape” I could listen to without tuning out

I have been trying to read this book for years but would always get lost in the names, place names and other words I didn’t know how to pronounce. I figured I’d give an audio version a try, hoping I would be able to pay attention to it. This is the first time it had ever happened.

a exceptional book

i have studied this book in all its forms. the poetic version which is a little bit harder to interpret . this audio book does break it down a lot easier and it is better to understand in these times. i recommend this for the beginner . i am very happy with its interpretation.

Fantastic Narrator.

I've read many translations of the Hávamál. The narrator does an excellent job with the Old Norse pronunciations throughout the book . His cadence is perfect for this material. A very pleasant listening experience.

Worth a listen

Ok, so his take on the Havamal is pretty straight forward. Most of it is presented literally, which it should but then there are times he takes a less the literal take. Like in Stanza 38 being about always having something to protect yourself with you, rather then always having a weapon with you. Thought, the narrator has the voice for this and this a great companion to have along with a physical copy of the Havamal for my son to study from

Great interpretations.

It is an easy listen to those who are beginners, those who are just curious or those that just want a reminder of Odin's words. It is short and to the point and very modern.

Excellent Modern Day Havamal

With so many Havamal translations, why pick this one? The author takes the Havamal and brings it into the modern day with his language choices. The narrator is engaging and correctly pronounces Old Norse words.
