Publisher's summary

A Life Unraveled is the story of kindergarten teacher Lily Gallo, who is a happily married mother of three with a perfect life - until the day she is brutally attacked while out for a run.

Lily grew up on a farm and always considered herself resilient. But when the small town’s high school football hero is arrested and convicted for the attack, Lily and her family suffer retaliation from some of the community, enticing Lily to wrap herself in an opioid cloud. When she puts her daughters’ lives in jeopardy, the wake-up call motivates Lily to flush the narcotics and clean up her life. But the clarity she expects is overshadowed by unnerving memory lapses.

As unexplained events become more disturbing, Lily believes that, although her attacker started the destruction, someone else is determined to finish it.

Mystery and suspense rolled into an everyday life

I couldn't put this down. I had to know how it all ended. A normal life, a loving family, and it all comes unglued.

This book made me want more!

I don’t even like stories like this or at least that’s what I had thought. I only read/listen to topics on health, self help or medical stuff. I had invited Jill on Second Wind the podcast after a previous guest who recommended her. After the interview I felt obliged to give this story a read. Surprise! I loved it! I was locked in and wished it wouldn’t end. Jill creates such a “set” for this story and the reader “see’s” everything as if it were on a movie screen. When I think back to parts of the book, I can actually see the scene and feel what was happening. What a gift, what a talent! Please keep writing!

Surprising

A well written story with an accurate representation of addiction and trauma twisted with suspense. About midway through I started to doubt whether I would enjoy the entire thing but I did!

Not suspenseful or a thriller

A good listen but it is not suspenseful or a thriller. While you are wondering what is going on with the main character I would not call it a thriller or a mystery. If you are looking for a great psychological thriller or mystery this is not the book for you however it was good. And I love Sophie Amos.

Must listen!

This has to be one of the top five audiobook for the year! The performance was superb! And the story, was gut wrenching at times and the twists had me continually turning pages! With this story, hearing it being read drew me in and connected me to the characters immediately! There where a few times that I had to walk away and not listen because I was so afraid that the author would do something and turn the story in a way that I didn't want to go. But then I would have to know! Absolutely a great story and this one, I recommend listening over reading!

Good.. but…

Since it’s included for free I can’t complain. The story starts out interesting which I really like but then it’s a bit tedious. A simple video surveillance could’ve saved this couple so much distress so it feels like a major hole that was never suggested especially with police actively involved. And it gets far fetched but still all in all an ok listen.

Enjoyable despite the subject matter

The story starts off with a violent attack of the main character. I thought that at some point the story would lag but it kept me engaged. And I love when stories throw in red herrings.

Painful to try to listen

I could not get into this book at all. Sooo slow. So much meaningless details about her kids schedules and no development of the characters. Almost DNF but figured it must get better… but it do not. 1:10
