Publisher's summary

Many gay men find ourselves trapped in a series of no-win situations. If we don't live honestly and openly, we won't have the skills, wisdom, or relationships necessary to manifest our dreams. But when we do come out, we must confront the full force of societal homophobia and consider a variety of questions:

  • Can we create family without mimicking the norms of straight society?
  • How do we cultivate sustainable gay friendships amid our internalized homophobia?
  • In a world of hookup apps and disposable relationships, how do we find lasting love?

A Gay Man's Guide to Life answers these questions. Britt East presents an approachable, no-nonsense path for gay men to set down the excuses and get to the business of improving their lives. No new-age mumbo jumbo or wishy-washy self-help jargon. Just real work focused on real results to unleash.

This book made me straight.

The first half of the book was for anyone not just gay men. it was basically a self help book. I almost stop reading cause I was hoping a book specific to queer men but the second half really started touching on the different aspect of being gay. I do appreciate the woke stuff for a little but then it kinda got out of hand because it seems like the author was all over the place. This book was 15% woke stuff 40% gay men stuff 45% self help stuff.

Not a great listen.,,

Couldn't get through it - the sad, downtrodden voice alone is too much for 8 hours! Strikingly similar circumstances. In my case, I left the crazy fundamentalist religion of my childhood and young adulthood and found my own spirituality, which changed my life. I respect his journey but as a gay man mine seems to have ended up a lot happier.

Way too preachy!!!!

Omg! I wasn’t expecting to be LECTURED how I am racist, transphobic, privileged etc for 8 freaking hours. This was basically a woke university lecture!

Life teachings for anyone

Imagine you had parents that just were not there for you. Instead, you have Britt to explain the world to you, to help you learn from his experiences. It is kind of like the big brother you always wish you would have had. His wisdom and encouragement is refreshing and there is something for everyone, gay or straight. Interestingly, the sections on the job hunting process are so good I have recommended it to friends and family members who are involved in the job search. It is especially helpful to new college graduates. Thank you Britt!

It’s too sad

It is filled with this mans sad life story
I thought he was going to give guidance and advice for situations. Even when he is narrating his sad life; the tone of voice is gloomy and sad. I get it-I have gone thru low points of life.

No

The introduction of his life was great. I can see why it was written the way it was. Many people are lost and struggling but I don’t see those people buying this book.

I don’t know what I was expecting. I didn’t realize this was a self help book. i don’t understand the audience for the book. There were many more topics to cover.

I wish he would have made it clear that this is a guide for the gay people of this country to define the clear value of who they are. I wish the last chapter would have been a continuation of the introduction. These are the steps that have given my life meaning. These are the battles I have fought.

The book needed more of his story.
