Every Firefighter Can Learn Something From This Book

Being a Fire Chief with almost 25 years in the fire service, I found this book to be not only a great refresher, but also a source of some new information. The author organized this book well from start to finish. I have since purchased copies of this book for my new firefighters as required material during their first year. I am sure they will find it as useful as I did!

What a great learning Tool!

I have two friends who are firefighters in the Omaha area. Both have tried to explain to me what it's like to be a 'first responder' to a fire emergency! Before this book, I had a vague understanding of what is required. But, after listening to this audio book, my knowledge base has been significantly expanded! This book provided me with such in depth knowledge of all the aspects of fire fighting, well beyond my wildest imagination! Whether you are currently a fire fighter or want to become one, this book is a tremendous learning tool. I whole heartedly recommend this book to those who already have a career but often wonder about the knowledge and first hand experiences of one of our countries heroes! The writing is clear, detailed and includes many examples of fire emergencies! Thank you Gary for documenting your experiences!

Great Read for New Firefighters

I appreciate Chief Ludwig's passion to share multiple fire service professionals tips and tricks. As one of those with 39 years in Career and Volunteers, I enjoyed listening to many of the past experiences past down.

This a MUST listen for any Firefighter

If there were ever such as thing as the "Go To" book for firefighters, this would be it. As the title says, Chief Ludwig has clearly compiled 401 things that every veteran firefighter can teach you. As I listened to it, I wish I had this book in the past and used it as a reference every time a new firefighter came through the door. The first chapter hits all the important things that a new firefighter should learn on their first day stepping into the fire station. If you're a new firefighter, this is a MUST read for you. You can gain a vast amount of knowledge from each chapter. It is like having a 30-year veteran assigned to you as your personal coach and mentor. If you're already a seasoned firefighter, this is a good refresher for you and gives you a blueprint for what to teach your probe. 5 stars all the way!

Accuracy of content

I’ve been a professional fire fighter in a mid level population city for 27 years. I myself have gone up the ranks and I’m currently a district chief at this same department. I haven’t seen everything but I’ve seen a lot and experienced 90% of what this book covers. The other 10% are basically just
The differences from of a Northern fire department to a Southern fire department. Geographical differences per say. This book is on point accurate and should be a must read for anyone wanting to seek a career in this profession as well as the seasoned firefighter.

A solid read

Great information, Chief Ludwig captures true, down and dirty advice from veterans of the American fire service. A wealth of information in an easy to conceptualize format which will benefit firefighters and officers from urban to volunteer departments. A must read for any student of the fire service. Chief Ludwig is a bellwether sharing his experiences and those of countless others that will hopefully be a linchpin for younger and future firefighters.

Great Coaching from a Vetern

A key to a great book is the communication and style of the author. In the case of this book Chief Gary Ludwig demonstrates exceptional skills in coaching and mentoring firefighters from the rookie to Chief. Each chapter covers a different aspect of the job of firefighting and provides clear insights into areas that are important to know. It is clear Chief Ludwig cares about teaching and mentoring firefighters to help keep them safe and to better prepare them in advance of areas they could encounter on the job. I highly recommend this book to members of the fire service. You will be glad you took the time to read or listen to it.
