Resumen del Editor

When love reigns supreme in Northridge High just outside Chicago, by the lake, it happens beneath the soft, pink-infused spotlights hovering over that most special night of the year - prom night!

And when that happens, it’s bound to be called . . . Passable in Pink

Passable in Pink is an Audible Original from New York Times best-selling author Mike Sacks (And Here's the Kicker, Poking a Dead Frog).

Sacks has teamed up once again with director Eric Jason Martin (Heads Will Roll) to adapt a forgotten John Hughes-type 1983 movie into a fully immersive cinematic audio experience, with an epic all-star cast, including: Gillian Jacobs (Girls, Love), Adam Scott (Parks and Rec, Big Little Lies), Bobby Moynihan (SNL), Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad), Justine Bateman (Family Ties), Julie Klausner (Difficult People), Laraine Newman (SNL), and Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club).

Passable in Pink deftly sends up the 1980s while addressing the vital question: Will Addy Stevenson go to the senior prom?

Addy is suffering through her sophomore year at suburban Chicago’s Northridge High. She lives on the “wrong” side of the lake with her father, a struggling advertising copywriter (“Where the hell is the goddamn beef?”) and her ever-boozy mom (“Get me another drink, baby, and really make it sing.”). Addy’s younger brother, Spaz, her soon-to-marry older sister, Princess, and a visiting international transfer student add to the mix.

Her world is turned upside down when she meets Roland McDough, the “most beautiful Richie boy” at Northridge High. Is he actually interested in Addy, or is he just playing a game? This star-studded Audible Original also features a special 11-song, 1980s-infused film soundtrack, produced by Mark Rozzo (Stinker Lets Loose!).

Are you ready to jump back into the cool, neon-glazed, high-topped reality of the 1980s? Do you miss those kick-ass tubular synth-rockin’ sounds and delicious phantasma-gaseous smells? When was the last time you put on your Members Only jacket and danced the Safety Dance?

A loving send-up of a bygone era, this is one audio comedy where Every Breath You Take will remind you of How You Used to Be.

Full cast includes: Gillian Jacobs, Adam Scott, Bobby Moynihan, Bob Odenkirk, Emily Woo Zeller, Rhea Seehorn, Laraine Newman, Judd Nelson, James Adomian, Sasheer Zamata, Joel Kim Booster, Julie Klausner, Justine Bateman, Mark Gagliardi, Jessica McKenna, Justin Michael, Julia Whelan, Eric Jason Martin, Tara Sands, and Mike Sacks.

Very Specific Audience

If you graduated in 1986, had a predominately white experience while in High School, are well versed all things John Hughes, or at any point emulated or wanted to be Molly Ringwold, then this is for you.

Saturated in satire and steeped in references that only people who grew up in 1980’s would know, this at times, painfully slow.

I’d be kidding myself if I didn’t admit that hearing Judd Nelson’s voice wasn’t a thrill. It’s laugh out loud funny in spots (again, only if you meet the above criteria) and sleep inducing in others. My biggest complaint? Not enough Judd Nelson and too much expository. LOL A girl’s got to have priorities.

You have to know the 80’s

If you are not up on the 80’s you will not understand most if they story. It was a mash up of many things 80’s. Clothes, slang, all the great movies, music etc.. I was a tad bored by the end honestly, but needed to hear the ending.

Fun to Follow

I enjoyed mentally ticking off all the elements of these classic 80s flicks: Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Say Anything, Breakfast Club, Valley Girl, Fast Times in Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Carrie, and others I can't immediately recall . I liked the strength of Addy's character; she isn't inclined to wallow. She's also pretty Clueless in an age appropriate way.

it wasn't a laugh-out-loud kind of humor for me. It was more a poke-at-who-we-were humor. I enjoyed the memories of what it was to relate to the nerd, the rebel, the head case, etc. Listen for yourself and remember who you were before the world swept you up.

So much retro fun!

Rad! Tubular! Gnarly! This is a fun trip through time with some awesome comedic voices...and kinda love that it pokes some holes in those "high school" movies from the 80's

80’s Movie Nostalgia Hilarity!

It was, LIKE, TOTALLY HILARIOUS!!!

The script was hysterically satirical of the typical teen 80’s movies. The actors played their parts perfectly!

So very enjoyable!

A fun time

I didn’t know what to expect which is how I begin most things. I was pleasantly surprised that I was enjoying this book. It took me several chapters to understand what I was hearing because I’ve never read fiction like this before. Voice acting was great and overall enjoyed the subtext, the satire and the jabs. It is all in good fun and made me laugh. As a 90’s kid who grew up loving the 80’s and wishing that I had been an 80’s and 90’s kid simultaneously this story takes you down that rabbit hole. I’d like to stay there but we all gotta come back to reality.

A hilarious, nostalgic trip back to the '80s

Mike Sacks absolutely nails the absurd and wonderful world of the 1980s. From fashion fads to pop culture obsessions, "Passable in Pink" made me laugh out loud. Sacks has a wicked sense of humor and the audiobook's narration brings it to life perfectly. This is a must-listen for anyone who grew up in the '80s or just loves a good dose of nostalgic humor.

Not an homage as much as an uninspired rip off

I am such a huge fan of the John Hughes movies, that I was beyond excited to find this, but no. Just no. I thought it would be an homage. A take off. But it was just the same stories with a very minor amount of changes made. Not great. Performers were fantastic but the story wasn't enough for them to overcome. Sixteen Candles, the main character's parent's forgot her birthday. Passable in Pink. The main characters parent's forgot the anniversary of her first period. What? That's pretty lame. The whole thing was like that. Things that were so incredibly obviously taken from the movies but not changed or updated in any clever way.
