Yes - I bought these CDs from Amazon and have been extremely happy with this purchase. Use it in my car and listen while driving. Am now more comfortable talking in Spanish or ordering in restaurants than I have ever been. I'd been trying to learn from books and Rosetta Stone, but none gave me the confidence to speak in Spanish like these tapes have.
Mark Frobose and the native speakers are all favorite characters of mine. They do a great job of keeping the tempo upbeat and me motivated. The "listen and repeat" exercises are simple and practical – they are not only helping me speak and pronounce correctly but have also increased my response time to answer in Spanish tremendously. There is a nice pace throughout and repetitive nature of the exercises makes it easy to recall and improve.
I have not listed to any of Mark Frobose's other tapes ..but now that I have listened to Part 1, I am looking forward to Part II of the series
I guess the biggest "aha" moment for me when I Mark broke up Spanish into simple usable high frequency phrases that I could begin to use immediately. This happened from the first CD itself.
If I had known these CD’s would help me so much, I'd have bought the set sooner. Thank you Mark - you are a great teacher and hopefully you will make more such audio books..as you are doing a great service helping adults like me learn new languages.
"Alphabetical" is a pleasant read/listen, and, unlike many books about linguistics, seems well grounded in actual facts. Author Michael Rosen reads it marvelously in his British-but-not-posh accent. With this book you get an interesting and educational, if not very profound, look at alphabets and other phonetic/linguistic phenomena.
By the way, Rosen tells the reader to consult "the PDF" several times for written examples of alphabets, etc., which he refers to.
