Cassandra McBride is an author, featured opinion leader and mental health advocate. But before she became all these, Cassandra learned about toxic relationships the hard way. After being exposed to codependency as a child, she grew up susceptible to narcissistic abuse and toxic relationships. At the age of 27, after the second successive relationship she had invested her energy, time and sacrifice into shattered, she decided to learn to interact, communicate and love other people in a new, healthier way. To get to that stage, she had to unlearn everything she knew about relationships and communication. In the course of her re-education, she discovered that neither being submissive or pathologically aggressive was the key ingredient for a great relationship. She discovered that it was impossible to light the way for others by burning herself out. Instead, she realized that the first step for anyone who wants a better relationship is to get in love and in sync with their own selves first. She says, to love anyone, you must first learn to love yourself. Armed with this knowledge, she has not only turned her relationships (and life) around for the better, she has helped hundreds of women across 3 continents to do the same. Her books revolve around better communication, healthy boundaries, thought patterns, emotional abuse, codependency, narcissism, gaslighting and how to build better, healthier family relationships. Cassandra has spent the better part of a decade helping people get over their people-pleasing tendencies and recovering from toxic relationships. She says everyone and every relationship is different, yet, they are all guided by the same basic principles. She has been happily married for many years.
