Publisher's Summary

Former Secret Service agents turned private investigators Sean King and Michelle Maxwell have seen their lives splinter around them. Michelle lies unconscious in a hospital bed after a night of suicidal violence. And Sean is forced to take on a thankless investigation into the murder of a scientist just inside the CIA's razor-wire fence near Williamsburg, Virginia.

Soon he is uncovering layers of disinformation that shields a stunning world of elite mathematicians, physicists, war heroes, spies, and deadly field agents. Amid murder, a seemingly autistic girl's extraordinary genius, and a powerful breakthrough in the realm of classified codes, Sean learns enough to put his life at risk. Now, he needs Michelle, at her best, to help stop a conspiracy of traitors operating in the shadow of the White House itself.

From Michelle's courageous struggle to defeat her long-buried personal demons to a centuries-old secret that surfaces in the heat of the action, Simple Genius pulses with stunning, high-intensity suspense. The heroes of Split Second and Hour Game are back as you've never seen them before.

Download the accompanying reference guide. And don't miss the previous exploits of this dynamic duo in Split Second and Hour Game.

The story does not disappoint. I appreciated some of the characters. (For example, there is a young girl in the book who's a genius in numerical factoring - her story emerges slowly within the wider story). It's not a deep book but a good Baldacci read. I don't always like Scott Brick (I do sometimes); he did a good job with this book.

The story's good, suitably intertwined plot stories, but the narrator, Scott Brick, made staying with the story stressful He tells the whole story, speaking for men, women, a child, and his voice was always the same. Once in awhile he tried to sound like a woman, but he lost it in the middle of the sentence. Plus it is tiring so many nasty people speaking at the same tone of anger... Scott Brick's tone? And the friendly discussions, same tone of discussing. Tiring, and seriously interrupting the feeling of being in the book.

Private detectives, a man & woman, (not romantically involved) but, rather, involving characters. The encryption / code angle is a key (pun intended) plot angle since it is used by EVERYONE with an ATM,credit card, or other private computer info. Michelle's (the lady private detective) psychological hang-ups are explored. Like Baldacci? Most thriller readers do. This book contains the explanation for her quirkiness and psychological hangups (which come into play a bit in his later books makes her character deeper) This book is a solid mystery/thriller. It only got three stars since I'm getting a bit more picky. (It's VERY entertaining) We're all look for those "Knocked out of the park" books. A hit to third base was certainly good enough to keep me glued to my earphones. Well narrated, well edited.

The first third of this book was slow, and somewhat boring. However, I will say that it really picked up and had an exciting second half. I enjoyed the last two hours so much that I listened to it straight through. However, unless you want to read every Baldacci book with Sean and Michelle I would stick with only the First Family, and Split Second. The middle two books were so-so. As a suggestion, Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books are better, in my opinion. Little different genre (police detective) but at least I didn't find myself falling asleep while I was listening to them!

This was my first Baldacci book. It sure won't be my last. I enjoyed the story and the narration was perfect. This one has a very good suspense filled story, Fun and entertaining but will keep you thinking all the way through. This story had it all. Great characters, plot, and narration. It was a mystery with a technical edge. Good job!
