He is the creation of Scottish born author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based detective, Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess, and is renowned for his skillful use of deductive reasoning (somewhat mistakenly - see inductive reasoning) and astute observation to solve difficult cases.

But what happened during the rest of 1881? Or all of 1882?

Three years have passed since Sherlock Holmes and his nemesis Moriarty vanished into the abyss of the Reichenbach Falls. In that time the criminals of London have been able to sleep safe in their beds. But the capital has never been in greater need of its protector.

Dr. Watson is startled one day by Holmes’ news of an audacious train robbery, which occurred overnight on the wind-swept moors of Yorkshire. With haste the pair proceed north only to find the case which lies before them is far stranger than logic or common sense would dictate. Watson wonders aloud why the thieves would have carried out so daring a raid when the jewels aboard the train could have been gotten to in a far easier manner back in London.
