  • Episode 6 - Government Cheese and Felipe's Birthday
    Jul 12 2025
Episode 6: Miracle on 34th Street, Press Your Luck Scam, Government Cheese + Felipe’s Favorite Movie quotes.

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

🗓️ On This Day...1947: Miracle on 34th Street, yes, the Christmas classic, was released... in June.
Starring John Payne and Maureen O’Hara, the film was completely stolen by little Natalie Wood and Santa Claus himself, Edmund Gwenn.

🗓️ Also on this day: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is released, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore.

🎒 1984: The Press Your Luck scandal.
Michael Larson memorized the game board’s “random” light patterns and walked away with a record $110,237 (over $330K today). His episode never aired again. Larson wasn’t just a trivia whiz, he was a lifelong scam artist. We dig into how he beat the system, ran various get-rich-quick schemes, and eventually died on the run in Florida in 1999.

📺 What We’re Currently Bingeing (Together):

    Government Cheese (Apple TV+)
Starring David Oyelowo, Simone Missick, and Bokeem WoodbineWe talk:
    • The look, the style, the camera work
    • The very 1980s vibe
    • And yes... the actual government cheese
🧀 In the 1980s, the U.S. had a 500-million-pound surplus of processed cheese due to dairy subsidies and began distributing it through food banks. Later, fast food chains helped move that cheese with new ultra-cheesy menu items. Capitalism is wild.

🎂 This Week’s Challenge: Quotes from Felipe’s Favorite Movies

    2. Blade Runner – Rutger Hauer’s “Tears in rain”
    3. The Temptations Movie – “Ain’t nobody coming to see you, Otis!”
    4. Groundhog Day – “Okay, campers, rise and shine...”

    6. Casino – “Triple Gemini. You can’t trust a snake.”
    7. The Royal Tenenbaums – “Burgers and the cemetery?”

  • Episode 5 - Wes Anderson Movies
    Jul 5 2025
Episode 5: The Beatles’ Missing Drummer + Deep dive into Wes Anderson movies?

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

We kick things off On This Day in 1964:
The Beatles launch their world tour… without Ringo Starr. Instead, Jimmie Nicol steps in as a last-minute replacement and lives 10 surreal days as a Beatle — before vanishing into obscurity. Fame ruined him. And no, that’s not an exaggeration.

Then we get into what we’ve been watching:
🎬 The Phoenician Scheme, Wes Anderson’s newest film starring Benicio Del Toro, Michael Cera, and Mia Threapleton. Beautiful to look at, but did it leave us feeling anything?

    🎥 MAIN TOPIC:
Wes Anderson’s full filmography — the rise, the peak, and the slow-motion fall.We revisit:
    • Bottle Rocket (1996) — the box office bomb that almost sent Owen Wilson to the Marines
    • Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic, Darjeeling Limited — peak era Wes
    • Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, Grand Budapest Hotel
    • And then... Isle of Dogs, French Dispatch, Asteroid City, and Henry Sugar
    • Finally: The Phoenician Scheme (2025) — the possible breaking point
    We ask:
🌀 Has Wes lost touch with emotion?
🤖 Are his actors just beautifully styled robots now?
🎨 Can a movie look too good for its own good?Join Felipe and Lesa for clips, breakdowns, behind-the-scenes facts, and a lot of cinematic heartbreak.

  • Episode 4 - Wedding Movies
    Jun 28 2025
Episode 4: Wedding Movies — Hits, Misses, and Surprises

Welcome back to Do You Even Binge? — the show where Felipe and Lesa deep dive into what we’re watching and what’s worth skipping. This week, we say “I do” to wedding movies… but not all of them should’ve made it down the aisle.

📅 On This Day in TV/Movie History:

Leonard Maltin’s first-ever appearance on Entertainment Tonight! Plus, a look back at his incredible legacy, from publishing his first film review book at just 17 to how IMDb changed the game forever. We share our own personal connections to his work and why he still matters.

💍 This Week’s Topic: Wedding Movies

In honor of AAPI Month, we tried some lesser-known Asian wedding films:
    • The Wedding Banquet (2025 Remake) — Quiet, slow, and… Bowen Yang gets someone pregnant?
    • Wedding Palace — A wild mix of K-pop and family curses.
👰‍♀️ Our Picks for Actually-Good Wedding Movies:
    • Crazy Rich Asians — Stunning, emotional, and yes, the ultimate wedding scene.
    • Jumping the Broom — Celebrating Black traditions with comedy and love.
    • Muriel’s Wedding — Toni Collette + ABBA = chaotic Aussie goodness.
    • The Hangover — Not a wedding movie exactly, but the ultimate wedding chaos story.
    • Wedding Crashers — Bradley Cooper as “Sack Lodge” and a hilarious Will Ferrell cameo.
    • The Wedding Singer — Peak ‘90s nostalgia and classic Sandler charm.
