Do You Even Bing? Episode 31: The "Not-Technically" Christmas Movies

Does a movie count as a "Christmas Movie" just because there's a tree in the background while someone gets shot? This week, we’re settling the internet's favorite argument. We’re moving past the carols and looking at the high-stakes action and dark comedies that redefined the holiday season for the skeptics.

    The Breakdown:
    • Die Hard: The debate that won't die. We cover Bruce Willis vs. Macaulay Culkin’s stance, the 80s capitalism subtext, and the Alan Rickman "stunt drop" that was a little too real.
    • Gremlins: The movie so chaotic it forced the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Plus, why a spider monkey almost replaced the puppets.
    • Trading Places: Breaking down the "Eddie Murphy Rule," the $1 bet, and how Dan Aykroyd’s "Dirty Santa" actually explained the commodities market.
    • The Long Kiss Goodnight: Why Shane Black is the king of the "Inconvenient Christmas" and Geena Davis's bathtub training.
Is it really Christmas without a hostage situation or a Mogwai? Tune in to find out.

This week, we ditch the Hallmark vibes for the heavy hitters of the 80s and 90s. We’re breaking down the "Old Classics" that actually hold up and the movies that redefined the holidays for our generation and the wild behind-the-scenes stories you haven't heard.

    This Week’s Movie Lineup:

    • Home Alone: How rich were the McCallisters? We discuss the $100k Paris trip, John Candy’s legendary $434 improv session, and the "John Hughes Universe" of neglectful parents.
    • It’s a Wonderful Life: The one old-school classic that actually holds up. We talk about Jimmy Stewart’s "regular guy" frustration and why it took us 20 years to realize this movie is a masterpiece.

  • Episode 29: Edgy and Different Christmas Movies
    Dec 20 2025
Do You Even Binge? Episode 29

This week, we move away from the "milk and cookies" vibes and dive into the edgy, the weird, and the flat-out dangerous movies that claim to be Christmas films.

We start with the German holiday demon in Krampus, where a blizzard-trapped family faces off against evil gingerbread men and a 9-foot beast. We break down the "cozy horror" of the film and share our personal trauma from the Universal Horror Nights maze.

Then, things get even darker with the ultimate anti-holiday classic, Bad Santa. We revisit Billy Bob Thornton as the drunk, safe-cracking mall Santa, Willie, and pay tribute to the late John Ritter and Bernie Mac.

We also take a trip to the neighborhood rent party in Friday After Next, where we discuss the legendary Money Mike and why you never leave your sandwich unattended during a robbery.

Finally, we wrap up with Love Hard, debating whether catfishing can actually lead to holiday romance or if the "Love Actually" cue card trick has finally become creepy.

Are these actually Christmas movies? Tune in as we discuss all of this plus random things happening in our lives.
