Gonzales' delivery is a wonderful mix of gravitas and light-heartedness that makes the commentary interesting to audiences of all ages. Analytical without being over serious and whimsical without being saccharine, Deep in Bear Country is an earnest look at the book series that has been been informing childhoods for more than half a century.

After reading the one sentence synopsis of the podcast by the creator I was able to ascertain that this would be a discussion of the Berenstain Bears books and not in fact someone reading the books aloud. And it is just that! How anyone could mistake this podcast as an audio book despite the many context clues presented to them is testament enough to that person's less than meager intelligence - but to then go ahead and write a 1 star review revealing to all the world their inability to discern a clearly labeled podcast from what they think is an audio book (even though they failed to actually conjure the the term "audio book" in their scathing analysis) must require a unique category of simpleton indeed.

Just what the description promised!

Phil knows bears. Especially bears who wear clothes, conduct scouting meetings, and occasionally try to bilk little old ladies out of their property. Bear Country is weird and wonderful. You should check it out!

I've been listening to Deep in Bear Country for quite some time now, and had the pleasure of guesting on it once. As someone who had a distant relationship to the Berenstain Bears growing up, it's been a treat to listen to Phil dig into the history and ephemera and whatsits of the series.

Funny, insightful look at fascinating pop culture

Phil's podcast is refreshing and entertaining to any fan of children's literature and the Berenstain Bears. But it is also a necessary and important series for the ways in which it documents the historical and societal role of the Berenstain Bears franchise. Any fan of pop culture - and especially those who grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s - would be well-served to give this show a listen.

Truly unique & outstanding podcast

It has been interesting to reconsider books that were for me, like for many people, remembered mostly as fun childhood reading, as the original and influential (and sometimes kind of strange!) works of children's literature that they are. The host takes a deep dive in the history of the sprawling series and its creators and gives these beloved books fresh attention and analysis.

A fresh take on a classic series
