• ESPN Staff Writer Kirk Goldsberry Releases Hoops Atlas
    May 11 2024
HOOP ATLAS examines how a handful of superstars have reshaped the sport over the past three decades and charted the course to the future of the NBA. Every few years, a special talent emerges and completely shakes up our understanding of how the NBA is supposed to operate. Whether it's their scoring ability, playmaking skills, or shooting prowess, these players and their tactics fundamentally challenge the traditional norms of the game and redefine what it means to be great on the court. For a period of time, these players each become an "Atlas" for the league, carrying the weight of the NBA on their shoulders while also paving the way for the future of the sport. Together, they map out the modern NBA's creation. HOOP ATLAS showcases the "Atlas" players whose influence has revolutionized the league and reframed greatness, from Michael Jordan to LeBron James to Nikola Jokic, with stops along the way for Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, and Steph Curry. As Goldsberry writes, "NBA superstars don't just dominate the league; some of them bend it to their will and transform aspects of gameplay." Revealing the ways in which these players have dramatically impacted the game, Goldsberry does a deep dive into the dominant trends of the modern NBA, including: · an unprecedented increase in offensive efficiency with shooting percentages now higher than ever· the corner 3 revolution which has changed the geography of the court· the rise in talent from abroad and how international stars have imported new moves and elevated gameplay· the recalibration of the center position by hyper-skilled playmaking big men who can do it all

  • Food Author And Scientist Rob Dunn From Curiosity Streams Taste The Flavor Of Life
    May 11 2024
Every living thing must solve an equation. How much nitrogen to eat, how much sodium, how much phosphorus, etc. The body solves that equation by taste and flavor -- by making living things crave what they need. Our appetites are linked to nutritional requirements. Taste: The Flavor of Life, a new docuseries on Curiosity Stream, explores the world of taste and how deliciousness unites us with the rest of animals in surprising ways.

For example -- Organisms need salt for their cells to function properly. If a food has salt, the taste receptor sends a signal to the brain, creating pleasure. The umami taste receptor rewards animals for finding nitrogen, an element that’s essential for building proteins and genes. Sweet taste receptors encourage animals to find foods with enough sugar to fuel their daily activity. Taste: The Flavor of Life traces the impact of taste from animals’ first steps on land to top Michelin star restaurants!

Taste: The Flavor of Life comes from biologist Rob Dunn and is inspired by his book Delicious – The Evolution of Flavor and How It Made Us Human (co-written by Monica Sanchez). A Professor at NC State University, Rob leads the Public Science Lab, a group of scholars from diverse disciplines who work to make new discoveries about daily life. His research has been awarded more than ten million dollars in grants from more than twelve different sources for work in 20 different countries. An avid writer, Rob has published many articles in National Geographic, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal among many others, as well as seven books including The Wild Life of Our Bodies and A Natural History of the Future.

  • Singer Songwriter Vacation Loving Al Perez Releases The Single And Video To La Di Da
    May 11 2024
Al Perez is a captivating singer/songwriter and soulful performer. His seven-member live band has thrilled audiences for over a decade at festivals, corporate events, and clubs around the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Costa Rica, and Aruba.
Perez's releases have received support on numerous playlists, radio, and various outlets (see Press section). Plastic Magazine says, "Al Perez proves why he is considered on of the most captivating singer-songwriter of our time."
Soul&Jazz&Funk notes, "Al avoids the inherent saccharine and his declarations of love are the more convincing for that," while Blues In Britain says Perez's music is "sheer joy, well in keeping with similarly sweet soul from the 'love generation' era."
Al's releases are available on Warrior Records which he recently promoted as the opening act on Nine Below Zero's 40th Anniversary UK tour.
“I Wrote La Di Da about the joys of being on vacation. I’ve been blessed to have traveled to so many tropical destinations; Aruba, Hawaii, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, etc.,” said Perez. “Every time I’m out there with friends or meeting new people, they always say (after a few drinks), why can’t we just live here for ever? So, while sitting in a tropical bay with a beautiful woman, I wrote this vacation song. I enlisted the help of a few local Hawaiian musician friends to play on it and we really strived to give it an authentic, smooth island feel.”

  • US Army Ranger Green Beret Joe Kent And And US Army Journalist Marty Skovlund Release Send Me
    May 10 2024
The extraordinary story of American special operator and trailblazer Shannon Kent, who hunted high value targets on classified missions in the most dangerous locales on earth while trying to balance her life as a wife and mother. Of the 1.3 million active-duty service members in the US military, only a tiny fraction are selected as "operators." Shannon Kent was one of the first women to serve at this level and was widely recognized as one of the best. Shannon served as a Navy cryptologic technician, responsible for signals intelligence and electronic warfare, but her proficiency with language set her apart. She was assigned to a unit so secretive that its name can't even be printed here, where she worked clandestinely to hunt the most wanted terrorists in the world. Send Me is Shannon's heroic life story, revealing the truth of both her work and the challenges she faced while trying to raise a family with her husband Joe, himself a Special Forces soldier. He and Shannon met in a war zone, their love forged during a special operations training course, their dedication spanning multiple combat deployments and the birth of their two boys. It is the legacy of an extraordinary woman who rose to the apex of the military, working with the most elite forces in the world, lifting the veil from the life of a Special Forces family to share their duty, sacrifice, and humanity. Drawing on their own extensive experience in special operations, Joe Kent and Marty Skovlund Jr. bring Shannon's heroic story to life, while providing a rare peek into the secretive world of special ops intelligence and a glimpse into the complexities of domestic life for a Special Forces family.
