    These radio dramas, called The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, were written for radio by Edith Meiser, and starred Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Together, they starred in 220 episodes which aired weekly on Mondays from 8:30 to 9:00pm. Basil Rathbone's last episode as the famous detective was "The Singular Affair of the Baconian Cipher". He was eager to separate himself from the show to avoid being typecast in the role. From then until 1950 the series continued with various actors playing the two principal parts.

    The series was originally broadcast from Hollywood. During WWII the show was also broadcast overseas through the Armed Forces Radio Service.

Hideous reading

John simply can’t read the Queen’s English. Has a nasty American accent, novice voice acting skills and compounds the unreality by giving different characters a variety of speech impediments. He could be credited with benevolence if reading for free but these episodes have ear-grating commercials imbedded.
Other readings exist for free performed by legitimate voice actors. Seek those instead.

wonderful podcast

John really gets you into the stories or histories and seems to be just as interested as the listener .It makes my long factory work days fly by while my mind is wrapped up in sherlock or a ghost story. So many deeply researched histories that we were only skimmed upon in school. Thank John for revealing more of our worlds histories I share all the 1001 and hope I haven't finished them all.
