In April of 1942, the Imperial Japanese Army steamrolled through Burma (present day Myanmar), capturing the only ground route from India to China, thereby cutting off the Allies ability to supply needed arms and supplies to the resistance in China. Supplies would now have to be flown in from India to China across the treacherous Himilayas- the most hazardous air route in the world. Skies of Thunder is the story of epic human endeavor, one in which Allied troops faced the monumental challenges of operationg from airfields hacked from the jungle and taking on "the hump", the fearsome mo9untain barrier that defined the air route. Author Carolie Alexander gives us a riveting account of what Allied heroes faced in the CBI (China-Burma-India) theater in WWII.

Nearly 13 years ago, On April 27, 2011, the U.S. Storm Prediction Center (SPC) counted 219 tornadoes in the United States, breaking a previous record of 147 which was set in 1974. There were 317 fatalities that day alone, and a record-breaking 4 EF-5 tornadoes cut huge swaths through Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee, while many other huge tornadoes swept through 16 states over a 4 day period, leaving behind a path of devastation claiming over 340 lives and costing over 11 Billion dollars. Amelia Earhart and her co-pilot and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared in the Pacific Ocean on the next to last leg of her round-the-world flight on July 2nd, 1937, and the U.S. Navy, after an exhaustive search of the Pacific which did not include the Marshall islands, released a statement saying that Earhart and Noonan's Electra ran out of gas and crashed into the ocean somewhere near Howland Island, where the Coast Guard ship Itasca reported hearing her say they were running low on gas and could not see the island. Beginning on that day, July 2nd, dozens of radio transmissions from Earhart were heard over the next 6 days by radio receiver stations, military and civilian, hearing Earhart giving her call numbers and asking for rescue- yet no rescue was attempted and the reports were ignored.

In this episode we talk to Chris Williamson, Project Director of Chasing Earhart, regarding theories and information provided by the many Earhart experts who have provided research on this subject and others concerning Earhart's disappearance including Dave Horner, author of The Earhart Enigma, who we quote here in part.
